quality music yall

Both of us love “Peace and Quiet” because it’s very unique, but also because of how deeply personal its lyrics are. As the only rap song, the only song without a proper chorus, AND the only song with an intro over a minute long, we hope it holds a special place in your hearts as well :)

The EP is called Dancing In The Ashes. It’s got synth-rock, EDM, pop, acoustic ukulele, and bass drops; at it’s core though, it’s a synth pop record. If that sounds like the kind of genre mess you’re into, perfect.

I wanted to film a party scene, because when the videos you’ve been watching are almost entirely pulled from the Billboard top 100 chart, party scenes seem essential to having a good video. I didn’t have friends at the time, but I had acquaintances, and for them I made invitations; on tiny slips of paper I wrote where to be and when, incentivizing the event with the promise of free desserts and snacks. I handed out about twenty invites, quite hopeful that this party would make for a great video. My parents were kind people who didn’t yet realize how few people I was close to. They bought snacks and root beer and all the other staple party foods we could find. I set them out, and put up Christmas lights in my backyard, lining them along the fence to frame the scene. It felt like a dream to be finally making this video real. No one came. The food was left untouched. It would’ve been embarrassing if it didn’t sting and ache. Still, I filmed a video with the lights. This wasn’t the last party I threw where no one came; I had several years of unattended parties through high school. This isn’t a sad story, not something to pity me over, and it’s barely even a sad memory now. It’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot though, because late last year Khue, my bandmate, and I decided to make a music video. I wrote a treatment for it, and because I still quite like those scenes, I wrote a party one into it. In mid January that scene came to life in my garage with the help of snacks, Christmas lights, and about twenty incredibly kind friends. I don’t know how to articulate how much it means to me that people would take time to be a part of something I’m creating. That video comes out tonight, and it’s the first video I’ve made that has been a collaboration of more than three people (besides a web series I tried to make that had a five person team, which sadly never left a folder on my computer). About 25 people total helped make this video possible. It was a dream to work on this with them, and I’m so excited for you all to see it. I'll post it here in a couple hours.
