I can’t hold myself back anymore... as a nurse I get a whole bunch of patients that are all different, and I realized that a lot of people don’t realize that they treat us like complete shit. So, here are some things that we aren’t able to tell you and have to keep our mouth shut when you do it:
-We know you’re in pain there is just so much we can do in order to alleviate it, as in if the doctor doesn’t prescribe it, we can’t give it!
-Just because you’re in the hospital doesn’t mean you can’t do anything for yourself anymore! We know how autonomous you are when you are at home or whatnot so don’t ring your bell for us to move a damn box of kleenex an inch closer when you can easily reach it (yes people do this)
-We understand that its not the funnest place to be but we are trying to make your time at the hospital the most pleasing we can
-We know that you’re in pain and getting impatient about not having any news from the doctor but its not a reason to be mean towards us
-Yes we ask a lot of questions and it might be annoying but its no reason to snap at us we are only doing our job and trying to gather as much information we can in order to help you out the most we can
-We are very much well aware of when you are due for a pain med and we do prepare them for you when it is due if you are known for chronic pain.. You do not need to ring your bell every 5 minutes even after we told you that we were preparing it.. It is a CONTROLLED NARCOTIC! Meaning we have to get it verified and signed over by another nurse!
-And lastly... You are not the only patient we have! We are in charge of a minimum of 15 patients!
In other words, we are trying our best to do everything we can for you, but you seriously have to remember that we are humans and not robots!
It gives different understanding about Martial law, an understanding of a child’s perspective.
