wearecne - continued from this
Every day Simba worried about Kiara - it was hard not to when she was openly hanging around Scar and his gang of criminals. When he found out that Kovu was Scar’s adopted son, the shouting match that followed with father and daughter had been floor-shaking. Kiara was growing more and more distant with them and Simba was at a loss of what to do. It was like trying to catch water in your bare hands, she just kept slipping away. All children had to grow up sometime, but not around the most dangerous criminals in the city.
So when he felt his phone ring and saw Kiara’s number, he was genuinely surprised. At the exact same moment, he felt a sense of dread. If Kiara had decided to willingly call her father for something ...
Something had happened between her and Kovu and now Kiara was stuck in the city with no way to get home. Immediately Simba’s heart leapt to his throat and he asked her where she was. When she answered, Simba told her, “Stay there. I’m coming to get you,” and then hung up before she could protest.
While in the car, Simba tried to figure out how he would approach the situation. His first instinct was to do the typical dad move and give a lecture; the urge to yell, because of his worry, was very strong. But as he drove, the rational part in him kicked in and made him realize that the last thing Kiara needed right now was someone else yelling at her. That brat of a boy had left his daughter stranded and broken-hearted, at night, in the middle of the city. What Kiara needed right now was someone who cared for her unconditionally and not another lecture which she would no doubt tune out.
And so, when he finally spotted his daughter huddled on a bench by the street, Simba nearly sobbed with relief as he parked the car. She was okay - even if emotionally she was broken, she was still safe. For now, that was enough. Simba stepped out of the car and approached her.
“Kiara,” he said, his voice gentle but shaking a little.
