Light at the End | Desiree & Michael
Her footsteps were surprisingly light against the tile of the abandoned hospital. People must have left in such a hurry they took off on foot, seeing there were countless cars still in the parking lot. Desiree Morgan Keating held a heavy duty semi-automatic rifle in her hands as she cleared the big building by herself. Or at least she thought she was alone. Her days had started off looking for a lost love who was probably married with five kids by now but instead she lost hope and now her mission was just to stay alive. Some nights were hard but she couldn’t take the coward way out of this. As she lingered down the hallway, her eyes scanned quickly across the hallway, flickering lights above. She took note of a red exit sign at the end of the hallway, the doors jammed open, someone having propped them open.Â
It made her nervous at first but then she came to her senses and realized walkers couldn’t have done that, it was more than likely old news. Her old canvas backpack held all kinds of small snacks and bottles of water, extra ammo, a few knives and a handgun, bandages and alcohol to clean wounds but she really wanted to get a few extra things before heading out there again. She needed antibiotics. Des was coming down with a pretty bad head cold and she knew her chances were cut in half if she was groggy and suffering with the sickness. The blonde’s ears finally alerted when she heard movement at the end of the hallway, making her slow her roll and raise her gun up. “Hello?”, she said in a light enough whisper that it wouldn’t set off a walker if the thing wasn’t human.
