Two years ago I was at a crossroads in life. My music career and efforts to mentor youth in the community had reached a dead end. I felt that even though people said otherwise, who would take me serious about studying and dedication to goals when I didn’t finish my own degree? Plus, I had dormant skills that weren’t being honed properly and it was time to humble myself and learn from experts. That’s when I decided to return to school at @morganstateu and I couldn’t of made a better choice. Bear-TV and @weaa889 gave me platforms to do just that and the amazing teachers of @sgjc_msu guided me to this point. I am now on my way to study abroad in Cape Town, South Africa for my final semester as a Morgan student and I cannot wait to tell the final part of this chapter in my Senior Capstone project. "Building Strong Children" Check out my latest post about investing in our communities. (Link in bio or bottom of the post) I was listening to #889fm #WEAA with #DrKaye discussing the #DawntaHarris case where this 17 year old boy got life in prison for killing Officer #AmyCaprio. My heart goes out to both families, both lost a person in this tragic incident. Dr. Kaye brought up the topic of investing in our communities and investing in our children. How different would these 2 peoples lives be if someone had of taken him aside and just shown him the love he needed? No shade to his family or those in his life but obviously there was something he needed that he didn't get to lead him into this situation. I don't justify his actions because he is clearly wrong, but imagine a world where every person had someone to lift them up. Imagine a world where the community raises the children, where it's okay to give love to steer someone in a positive direction. Imagine a world where the family's voice is heard. This is a boy whose mother begged authorities to keep him in detention so he could regain control of himself. Her pleas fell on deaf ears. The situation is tragic. What is even more so, is similar situations occur all the time. Let's get #proactive and beat these issues before they manifest themselves.
