Polishing some old work. Good to know I am still bad at shading.

Ralsei so, so strongly remind me of The Velveteen Rabbit. Chapter 3 and 4 spoilers ahead.

Starting with 4chan thread comparing Ralsei and Teddy Bear from Earthbound, Ralsei considered himself "not real" and plead Kris and Susie to pass their pain and burden onto him. Likewise, The Teddy bears is a unique item which absorb damage from a party member, and "became a pile of fluff" upon its destruction. Both UnderTale and Deltarune are confirmed to be inspired from Earthbound.

Ralsei, in general, has a strong association with dolls/stuffed animals. He is described as fluffy/soft. His Hug Prince titles specifies He receives and gives out hugs. He is associate with comfort and takes a role of caretaker in Castle Town.

He reminds me of The velveteen rabbit because he seemed to be transformed by the love Kris and Susie gave him.

He saw himself as a helper. A useful asset to assist the heroes. However, as he travels with Kris and Susie, he realized, paraphrasing, "Friendship isn't about being happy all the time. It is something far greater than I can imagine."

One of the most impactful moment of Chapter 3 is when he called friendship a "responsibility [he] cannot fully complete." It is heart-breaking to know that his low self-worth is not only for the fact that he is a Darker. (Of course not, most, if not all Darkners seem to have their own desire. Some even impose their own desire upon Lightners and rebelled against them.) It is Ralsei who deems his existence as a mere shallow imitation of a friend. That is the pain he carries.

Much like the recurring point in Velveteen Rabbit, Becoming Real is painful. A pain worth enduring. Through so much love and time. It ended with Ralsei broken down, crying so violently, he urges Kris to not look at him. Then, in Kris's kindest moment, they comforted him as a real friend, tell him it is fine to be honest with his feelings and share his burden. Ralsei might not think himself real, but he had made a real and meaningful impact on Kris and Susie.

Sorry about all of these. Ralsei is my favourite character.

I am not sure if I am taking too long for each page. I sure do want to finish this comic someday, but the introduction section isn't over yet, and it has been years. I would say it is almost one third now.
