Did you know that one of the strongest indicators of whether a woman will breastfeed is having a strong desire to do so? Also having been breastfed as a baby, being born in an Asian country and being an older mum - I tick 3 of those boxes, but it got me thinking where that desire comes from? I never questioned breastfeeding or not, it was a no-brainer. I had never been exposed to a great deal of breastfeeding before doing it and I really had no great interest in it till it was 'my turn'. It's almost like a switch was flicked on. And it went on strong! Knowing my daughter was in for a prolonged hospital stay post birth was very motivating for her benefit, so I guess health was leading value. Despite many barriers and challenges she exclusively had my milk in hospital and beyond. In time I came to realise the benefits in terms of financial savings, environmental benefits and convenience, as well as it being the most fabulous parenting tool! #normalisebreastfeeding #wbw2017 #worldbreastfeedingweek #yes iamboobinandwalkin #keeponboobin
