“By instituting this subject, we want to bring behavioural changes among students, making them realise the importance of water security. They will be taken through the entire process from procuring water to its consumption,” said director of Balbharati Vivek Gosavi, adding that since it is a graded subject, students’ continuous learning effort will earn merit, thus doing away with the exam pattern. A detailed textbook is being drafted for this graded subject that is set to be introduced in the 2020-21 session. Experts of water management have been roped in to design the curriculum that will flesh out the literature of water security as a whole. The decision to introduce these dossiers has followed state government’s July 2019 resolution calling for classroom units on water security.
