In Sickness and In Health
Pairing: Clint x OC Words: 2,178 A/N: Itās always a pleasure to write for @liaamari17 ās OC especially when she makes me the most beautiful art in the world! This oneās for you, babe, I hope you like it! Part 2 will be ready in the next few weeks!
āCode Blue!ā Steveās shouts came through your earpiece and you jumped to your feet. āNat needs a Code Blue on the shoreline!ā
āAre you sure thatās necessary?ā Clint asked, his staticky voice was broken up between grunts.
āWeāre all but outnumbered, Clint, we need the extra help.ā Steve sounded desperate, knowing how much Clint wanted to keep you out of the fight.
āSay no more, Cap, Iām on my way!ā You strapped your canteen of life saving water onto your hip and ran full speed out of the quinjet.
Your missing led you way out into the open waters until you touched ground on an isolated island. The small coastal town was covered in muted shades of gray from the overcast skies. If anyone stayed behind to mourn the city that once was, then they were very well hidden among the rubble. Luckily, the team was able to move most of the fight towards the water and away from any remaining buildings. The sound of shots being fired led you straight to where your comrades were damn near getting their asses kicked. You stayed close to the shore because you always drew power from the crashing waves and you were definitely going to need all the help you could get.
Your feet dug into the sand as the sight of Hydra agents descending upon Natasha came into view. She could handle herself, there was absolutely no doubt about that, but everyone had their limits and she was reaching hers. Bodies fell to the ground all around her and more were on their way. As you ran down the beach you reached out to the water, made a fist, and swung it towards Natashaās attackers. Tons of ocean water followed your command and you focused all your energy on sending it to the intended target. The barrier you made stopped them in their tracks and you crashed it down on them while they were distracted. You put immense force behind it so there was no way it didnāt immediately snap their necks on impact. It gave Natasha the time she needed to take care of the rest of her assailants. You didnāt hesitate to help her finish them off, throwing punches in every direction.
āYour leg,ā You said, pointing out the gash on her upper thigh, ācāmere Iāll take care of it.ā
She limped over and you pulled the flask of water from your hip. You poured it over her wound, unnerved by her flinches of pain because you knew it would be much worse if you were more delicate. It seeped into every pore, absorbing the healing properties you worked into the water and watched her skin repair itself. Her grimaces turned to looks of relief as the pain left her body and she had full use of her leg again.
āThanks, Lia, Iām good here, go help the others!ā Natasha called out to you and you gave her a quick nod of assent before you sprinted away.
Instinct told you to head farther inland, careful to make sure there was enough water around you, but towards more of the fight. The clouds above released a steady sprinkle of rain and the drops landed softly in your hair. You reached a hand up to your face and felt warm blood begin to spill from your nose. Careful to make sure no one saw, you quickly wiped it away and shook the dizziness from your head. Using too much of your powers always had that effect on you, but you couldnāt risk the lives of your team members.
āTake it easy, Lia, youāre no good to us dead.ā Clint said cautiously as if he was somehow seeing the blood for himself and you could practically hear him clench his jaw in anxiety.
āI know what Iām doing, Clint.ā You said tersely in return. He also knew what you were doing which is why he worried about you in the first place. Things were different when you were just his trainee or even just another member on the team, but as his wife you gave him a whole other list of things to worry about. They were things you couldnāt be bothered with right now so along with your vertigo, you shook it all off as best you could.
You powered through the impending fatigue and ran to where a swarm of Hydra agents had surrounded Steve. They drew their guns at him and he prepared to take the hits by ducking behind his shield, but the shots never came. Instead he looked up just in time to see them standing frozen in fear. He searched for the cause until his eyes landed on you. Your stance was rigid with both palms facing downwards as if you were controlling a puppet in each hand, but it was the rain you had full control of. Steve didnāt notice you had stopped the raindrops in midair and forced it through the bodies of the men who aimed to kill him. Small red leaks sprang from all over their bodies as their weapons dropped from their hands and hit the ground with a dull thud. The ground was littered with their corpses and you let the rain continue on its natural course, washing away the blood you spilled.
Your eyes were fixated on the scarlet liquid mixing with the rain water after it hit the ground without really understanding what you saw. You couldnāt bring yourself to focus entirely on what you were seeing, but you couldnāt look away either. Everything went in and out as stars began to dance across your vision. You must have inadvertently started swaying because you wouldāve fallen over without Steveās steadying hand to hold you up.
āLia? Lia, are you okay?ā His voice sounded like he was far away even though he was standing right next you.
āYeah, never better, ā You mumbled, rubbing your temple, āum whatās next?ā
āWhatās next is the infirmary.ā Clintās angry voice cut through the noise again and snapped you out of your daze. āSteve, get her out of here!ā
āClintās right, youāre done here.ā Steve said matter of fact and tightened his grip on your arm.
āI said Iām fine,ā You said in a voice that convinced no one as Steveās hand loosened enough for you to pull your arm out, āI can keep going.ā And thatās what you did.
He didnāt realize it, but you forced his body to let you go through controlling the blood in his veins ever so lightly. In the years to come, he would suspect you used your powers on him even though the manipulation was so discreet. For now, all he could do was watch you run away, further and further into the fray.
āGet back to the quinjet, Lia, please just get back!ā Clint sounded more than angry now, he sounded desperate but there was no way you could march back and rest easy knowing your friends were still risking their lives.
āI canāt.ā You said simply, finally letting how tired you were show through the cracks in your voice. The rain became relentless as it poured over you in sheets, but you couldnāt stop.
You ran to where you thought Clint was. Something in your bones said he needed you and that feeling forced you to keep running. You cleared a path through the rain, your head spinning as you fought to run a straight line. It called to you as your feet splashed through the pavement, kicking up water with each step. Your gut feeling led you to a condemned building where you saw arrows fly from the top. He had to be up there so you searched for the nearest entrance with weary eyes. A commotion could be heard as soon as you crossed the threshold and quickly found that it was coming from where you had seen Clint shooting down Hydra jets.
āClint!ā You called as you raced up the crumbling stairs. You finally reached the rooftop as Clint loosed another arrow, ready to shoot it into the sky.
āLia? I told you to get back to the quinjet!ā He said when he caught sight of your exhausted face and immediately lowered his bow. You ran to him regardless and immediately started pulling him towards the stairs.
āYou have to get out of here, we have to go!ā The words spilled from your mouth but you couldnāt get them out fast enough as your hands reached for every part of him. His familiar hands grabbed back at you before cupping your frantic face and wiping the rain water off your cheeks with his thumbs.
āYouāre okay.ā Clint said, almost as if he thought heād never say those words to you again. A look of relief flooded his face before he pulled you in kissed with the passion that can only be found in a war zone.
Reluctantly, you pulled away after stupidly indulging for a moment too long. āThereās no time, Clint, come on!ā
āLetās go then,ā He pulled your arm over his shoulder so you were using him as a human crutch as he led you back the way you came, āLia and I need an e-vac on the north side of the beach-yeah weāre fine, but sheās falling apart-I need medical on her stat!ā
āClint, do you see that?ā You wearily pointed a hand to the sky where an approaching missile was headed right for the two of you. His grip instantly tightened on you as he realized what was coming your way. āItās-itās a bomb.ā
āWe need cover NOW!ā Clint pushed you farther under his arm, but you wiggled free and stood to face the missile as it got closer and closer. āLia! Get back, we need to get out of here!ā
āThereās no time now.ā You said and he could barely hear you over the powerful rain that had yet to let up. āBut donāt worry, Iāve got this.ā You looked over your shoulder and flashed him a small grin as he looked on, horrified that you were about to take on an industrial bomb by yourself.
A bullet zoomed past him, narrowly missing his head as more Hydra agents took aim at the two of you. He debated between going after you or fighting and figured keeping them off you was your best bet. Once you decided you were going to do something there wasnāt much he could do to stop you.
The water soaked your blonde hair and the wind whipped it around you like a violent halo. There were only moments left until you and everyone you loved were blown to bits so you mustered what strength you had left. You closed your eyes and clenched your fists, letting the water fill you with as much power as possible. A dome of pure ice began to form around you and the building you were on top of. You strengthened with with the rain that poured down on it, but you still worried it wouldnāt be enough. It had to be several feet thick by the time the missile finally hit and the sheer impact had to have shook the entire world.
Fire and ice filled your vision as the blast blew you back. Your body was lost amongst the rubble as the building came down on top of you. Clint was frantically looking for any sign of you as struggled to stay awake. Finally, you felt his hands pick the heavy rocks off of you and carried you through what remained of the coastal town.
āJust stay with me, Lia, Iām gonna get you out of here.ā Clintās voice sounded like it was coming from deep underwater and you held onto it with everything you had. āDonāt go, please donāt go.ā
āClint, a-are you okay?ā Your fragile voice was a godsend to him and he pressed a grateful kiss to your bloody forehead.
āYeah, sweetheart, Iām fine. Weāre all fine.ā That was all you needed to know and you let yourself slip away, just for a moment.
However, different things kept bringing you back. Shouts of anger, machines going off, and the feeling of needles being pressed into your skin mixed with images of the impossible. Eventually those things turned black and you couldnāt see anything. One thing stayed constant after a while and it was the warm sensation in your left hand like it was being held.
Clint would never be seen anywhere but at your bedside and the team took turns watching over your sleeping body, waiting for you to wake up. He rubbed the diamond ring between his fingers and quietly wept to himself when he thought no one was watching. Between your still form and Dr. Choās diagnosis, it was hard to think positive. That didnāt mean he was going to give up on you especially when you never gave up on him. For better or for worse, through sickness and in health, Clint was going to wait for you because you promised to always come back to him.
