A crystal can need replacement for various reasons, but when it comes to changing them, our watchmakers follow a simple, standard procedure. Once the case is placed in the holder an adjustable watch case opener is used to precisely grip the case-back. After a few simple turns the crystal is ready to be removed, which requires the use of a "case closer". Using a plastic die to protect the crystal our watchmakers firmly snap the crystal out by applying pressure, making room for the new crystal to be installed. Prior to that other repairs such as polishing may take place if requested and in some instances changing the crystal is a mere step in the total overhaul of a watch.
