Episode 1: Pilot
“Tyler Deadport?” The question came cautiously.
“That’s me,” I nodded, “What can I help you with.” I glanced over at Callie who stood worriedly looking on from the living room.
“May we come in? It would be best to discuss matters in a more private place.” The shorter of the two men said removing his sunglasses. He ushered me back inside. He was rather built. His cut blonde hair looked like it was permanently styled. A thin scar reached from under his eye to the lobe of his ear.
“Oh you have company.” The second man said noticing Callie in the living room. “We will need to ask her to leave”
“I don’t think so,” Callie stood her ground, she was always a little bit hard headed. The man who had ushered me inside the house nodded to have her removed.
“It’s fine she’s with me.” I looked the first guy right in the eyes. “I would ask that she stays. Whatever is going on she is with me.” Callie gave me a grateful look, and then resumed looking intimidating for a girl half dressed. “Now could you please explain to me who you two are?”
“I am Officer Black,” The small blonde held out his hand and I shook it. “And this is Officer Stander.”
The second officer offered me his hand and I shook it as well. I offered them seats in the living room and they sat cautiously.
“I am afraid we come with some tragic news,” Officer Stander started to give the government’s version of an apology speech. I noticed his eyes shifting, something wasn’t right, Officer Black’s pistol was unclipped from his belt and loaded. A small blue light blinked in Officer Stander’s pocket. I began to scan their uniforms. None of the colors made sense and there was a lack of identification or symbols. I started to tense and Callie caught on. “We are afraid to report your parent are dead in the line of duty. Is there anyone you can go with until this blows over?”
The words didn’t even register at first. It wasn’t until I realized they were all waiting for my reaction that they truly sunk in. My breath caught in my throat. A million things shot through my mind. I probably would have been like that if a crash from upstairs snapped me out of it. Both of the officers were on their feet guns drawn and at the ready.
“Is someone else here?” Officer Black demanded not taking his eyes off the staircase.
“No,” Callie answered for me, “What’s going on here.”
“No time to explain,” Officer Stander had pulled a weird gadget out of his pocket the small blue light blinked at the top. “Do you have somewhere in the house that your parents told you never to go?”
“Ya the basement Can I ask why that matters right now?” I was waiting for something, I noticed a small movement on the edge of the staircase. “Aim top left banister of by about a degree and then u fire and you’ll hit your target. “
I honestly have no Idea where it came from or how I knew but they didn’t ask. A shot was fired as Officer Black aimed up. There was a green flash as the bullet or whatever it was shot out of the gun. A roar ensued and a large black mass tumbled down the stairs wrapped by what looked like green electricity.
“What the hell?” Callie jumped back at the ready. She was a black belt but I don’t think she had ever tried to use it on someone or something before.
“Get to the basement!” Officer Black yelled as another black thing came racing down the stairs. I didn’t wait for another hint. I grabbed Callie’s hand and ran for the kitchen. The door to the basement was locked as always. I kicked in the lock and flipped the light switch. The stairs were dimly lit as we started down. Officer Black and Officer Stander were right behind us. At the bottom of the stairs was another door. I went to turn the knob but instead of twisting to open the door the knob itself opened to reveal a small black tray shaped like a finger. Officer Black glanced back and nodded at it, “Stick your finger in Tyler.”
I slid my finger into the tray. There was a small prick then the door came to life.
“Dna analysis has identified a match access granted.” There was a lick and the door slid back into the wall. A large white corridor lit up . We rushed inside and the door slid back into place and clicked shut.
“Will that even hold that thing out?” Callie asked. Officer Stander nodded sliding his gun back into its holster.
“That door is three ply steel it won’t be coming down easy.”
“Then what is that?” Callie pointed at a red center where the door was starting to melt.
“That would be a complication.” Officer Black started off down the corridor. “Come on! We have to get farther in there has to be something to stop them in here.”
“What is in here?” I shouted after running as quickly as I could Callie keeping in perfect step with me.
“This I your parents off site work space. They requested specially when they had you. They didn’t want to have to come into the warehouse and leave you behind every day. This way they could raise you and still work.” Officer Stander explained panting. “Hey Black I think this is an infinity corridor.”
“And I think you should have said that sooner.” Officer Black yelled back. “Tyler do you know the password?”
“How would I know the password? I didn’t even know this existed until you showed it to me!”
“Maybe it’s something related to you. I mean your parents decided to have this built so they could stay with you,” Callie suggested.
“You are a genius!” I said between breaths.
“I know!” Callie looked happy not even slightly out of breath.
“I love you.” I smiled at her and then smacked into a wall. I picked myself up groaning, “What just happened.”
“You figured out the password.” Officer Black pulled open the door. Behind us a little ways was the being. Lava seemed to be pouring from its limbs and the smell of burning and ruin reached me. Officer Black quickly slammed the door shut.
“What is that… that… that thing?” Callie pointed at the door.
“That is a person, a very angry person mind you but a person, and they have a dagger from Pompeii with them that is causing them to be able to do all …. All that.” Officer Stander started searching various shelves that lined the room. Weird trinkets and odds lay scattered around each one. “Your parents were trying to track it down and bag it when this lunatic got ahold of it.”
“I’ve got something,” Officer Black held out a snow globe. “Open the door!”
“Are you crazy?” Tyler moved away from the door, “And let that thing in?”
“Watch out,” Officer Stander pulled open the door as the lava spewing creature entered into the room. Officer Black rushed at it and tapped it with the snow globe. The creature froze and the room grew instantly chilled. He quickly pulled an ash covered dagger from the creatures hand and dropped it into a bag that Officer Stander now held open for him. The ducked as purple sparks flew out and he sealed it. The creature turned into the form of a man who dropped to the ground shivering.
“Well he needed to cool off,” Stander tried to joke. Callie looked at him in with wide eyes.
Back upstairs the helped the guy defrost and laid him down in a bedroom. When Tyler and Callie got back to the living room. A redhead woman was their talking with Stander and Black. She looked up at Tyler and Callie.
“Hello Tyler. Hello Callie.” She extended her hand, “I am Ms. Donovan. I want to express my deepest apologies for your parents’ deaths Tyler. They were good friends of mine. Unfortunately, I can not give you a lot of time to grieve right now there are more pressing matters at hand and it seems you two have seen a little too much so we will have to wipe your memories.”
“Wait,” Tyler interrupted her “I want in.”
“What?” Ms. Donovan looked taken aback. “No one has ever asked to join the warehouse. You would be the first.”
“We would be the first.” Callie spoke up, “I want in as well.”
“Well I have no argument with this Officer Black can you show them to the warehouse,” She turned to him and then looked back at Tyler and Callie, “Pack your bags, You won’t be coming back here for a very long time.”
Callie and Tyler looked at each other excitement in their eyes and looked back but Ms. Donovan was gone.
“Where?” Callie started.
“She does that,” Officer Stander smiled, “You’ll get used to it.”
“No you won’t.” Officer Black laughed. “Welcome to the Warehouse 14 team you two, hope you enjoy being agents.”
