Cautionary Tale: If you find yourself wrongly wandering the Place of No Stars, simply find the Gift Giving Shadow. They will send you home.
Story:
It wasn't like Shadow had been planing any of his life. Long ago, it had been just them and Blizzard. The two siblings could've been happy with just each other, but they would've been happier among more cats.
And more cats they found.
LostClan was a newly formed group in the city, and Shadow was over the moon. Their parents used to tell it stories of Clan cats, and this could be his chance to make his parents proud!
But as the moons passed by, the newly named Wardenshade found that they didn't need to make their parents proud. Or, at least, it didn't need to be the only thing driving them.
Because, after all, they had a new family to protect.
Rustkit had been found within the scrapyard, not even four moons old. Wardenshade had gravitated towards the kit without even realizing it. Or, that was until Goldenstar asked if they'd be willing to adopt Rustkit.
Wardenshade knew he wasn't perfect, but it still tried its hardest to raise Rustpaw as best they could. The apprentice years were the hardest, as another loner kit, Scrappaw, had been brought in.
Scrappaw didn't like Rustpaw, and the feeling was mutual. But still, there was something about the older apprentice that made Wardenshade's fur crawl.
Maybe if they had gone to Goldenstar or Spiritstring or Springsoul, they could've prevented the gruesome action they had to take.
Wardenshade had simply wanted to take a walk around the small forest bordering the camp. He hadn't wanted to walk in on Scrappaw holding Rustpaw to the ground, claws digging into his son's flesh. He hadn't wanted to rush Scrappaw, to beg for him to tell them why he was doing this, to hear that Scrappaw was practically head-over-paws for the murderer that had tormented the Clan-founders moons ago.
He hadn't wanted to push the apprentice to the ground, to accidentally snap his neck, to feel a growing pit of dread and sickness in their chest as Scrappaw stopped breathing.
Rustpaw was terrified. Wardenshade, despite feeling that same terror, calmly instructed Rustpaw to get Goldenstar, Springsoul, and Spiritstring. Honesty was the only thing that could be done in this moment, and even if Wardenshade was exiled, Rustpaw was blameless.
Even when the founders forgave him, Wardenshade only felt worse. It had just killed an apprentice, and yet they were off the hook. With a silent prayer to any spirit that was listening, they swore to never again take a life unless it was the only option.
So how poetic was it that moons and moons later, Wardenshade once again fought Burnkill. This time reborn as the eccentric Rabbittwitch, and followed by the devoted Bunnymask.
At the very least, Wardenshade could rest well, as they passed onto the afterlife. Their kits sat next to them. Loud and carefree Scrappyspark, named after his biggest mistake, a reminder to never forget the past. Cyancry, calm and fearless, the newest healer, the one who always tried her hardest in everything. And his beloved Rusttangle, and his new mate, Darkglow. The one who started Wardenshade's best life, and the one who would protect Rusttangle now that Wardenshade no longer could.
Additional Information:
--Submission by @red-winter-is-coming
--By technicality, they belong to the Place of No Stars, due to being a guide!
--Red: "I have extended the olden golden days poly. This is bc the idea of the ever chaotic Spiritstring and the very quiet Wardenshade being qpps is very funny to me <3"
--They are the biggest bleeding heart to ever be a Dark Forest guide.
--Rusttangle and Darkglow end up having kits, and Wardenshade likes to visit in their dreams and/or watch the Clan on important days!
--Got to be the Guide because Blizzardstone begged and pleaded with StarClan for weeks
--They eventually run into Scrappaw, and frantically apologized for killing him. Scrappaw was surprised, but forgave them, admitted that maybe agreeing to help a known serial killer was a bad idea.
--bc this is technically a fnaf AU, here's the cats and the animtronics they're based off:
Wardenshade - Shadow Bonnie
Rusttangle - Molten Freddy
Darkglow - Lefty
Scrappaw - Scraptrap
Scrappyspark - System Error Toy Bonnie
Cyancry - High Score Toy Chica
Rabbittwitch - Glitchtrap
Bunnymask - Vanny
(we do not question the weird family tree going on here <3 )
