Roy’s feelings for Dick Grayson were a complex thing, a machination of a million different parts all of them moving and none of them ever aligning. There had always been something there, in the back of his throat and on the tip of his tongue, but it had never been the right time, or the right place and so they had remained unsaid… And now it was too late. It was unsurprising, something like this was bound to happen and it had been incredibly naive of Roy to wait and foolishly hope it would work out like life was a satisfying ending to a romantic comedy movie. 

He was kerosene and black power, a building rigged to explode, and each shared touch and warm smile from across the room was a spark that that threatened to light him ablaze. But this shapeless anger had no place here, and he had no right to it; so Roy took it apart, carefully and methodically, piece by piece. Remembering that if he waited long enough, carefully analyzing how it felt, the emotion would lose its inertia. It was the same as pain.
