This is an acrostic poem based on a BBC report (1) which shows how one of the most important crusades preserved medieval castles of the world, Krak Des Chevaliers has was also known as Qala’at Al-Hosn in Syria, Homs, was destroyed during the war in Syria as the rebels were hiding in that castle. This marvelous castle was not the only threatened listed building in Syria. Unfortunately, there are many rare sights that could not be replaced which are under barbarian bombardment from the government and its allies against the rebels.  

In this poem, I use eternity as a metaphor for Krak Des Chevaliers. Other metaphors were used, such as the vampire which indicates to the murderer and the little princess to the girl in my memories playing around the castle. 

Qala’at Al-Hosn was a very attractive point of interest to many visitors as long as native people. As a little kid, my father insisted on visiting it every time we headed towards the coast in summer. And this bond between the castle and our family memories triggered me to express my sad feelings though a poem.
