Walker was bored, really bored.
He was been sitting there for almost an hour watching small girls it tutus twirl around.
Sure it was cute. That didn’t make it any less boring.
Walkers cousin, phoebe, had been practicing for days for this dance. He always watched her twirl around their living room, when she was over.
Sometimes (all the time) joining in.
But when it came time to actually go to this recital, sitting around listening to same piano beat for 45 minutes, was not as enjoyable.
———
Your sister was really excited for her solo.
She come home after every practice and show you what she’d learn every time.
Now, when it came down to the day of the recital she had begged you to stay back stage with her, saying she needed her sister.
Now how can you say no to a face like that?
She was ultra nervous, bless her, and you agreed not wanting to upset her.
As your parents wished her good luck (with loads of kisses and hugs) she finally broke from them and grabbed your hand, spinning on her heels and leading you back stage.
The back stage was massive compared to all the little girls, while the draped curtains hung by the side of the stage.
“good luck, everyone!” Their teacher whisper-yelled as the lights dimmed.
Applause erupted throughout the concert hall as the slow classical piano started.
———
Walker watched as the kids elegantly piled themselves into the stage, taking their positions.
Phoebe standing right next to your sister.
As the piano started to pick up the girls started moving.
Gliding across the stage with the elegance of much older kids.
Every pirouette, plié, jump, and spin, making their tutus bounce.
It has honestly adorable, walker felt kinda bad for being moody now.
———
The girls slowly started to disperse, some taking right some taking left.
One knee bent, the other straight, Just how they were taught, one arm slowly fanning over their heads.
That left your sister.
Standing, nervously, in center stage.
The poor girl looked scared out of her mind.
You watched from back stage as the music kept going, bitting your knuckle as she stayed frozen in the middle.
You heard a few distant cheers, trying to egg her on to start.
It didn’t work.
She just stood there on the verge of tears.
Some of the girls had even stopped their movement just to look at her.
That did not help her nerves.
———
Walker glanced around the audience, looking in the direction of where the small cheers came from.
The little girl in the middle of the stage was just standing there.
Not moving.
He wasn’t even sure she was breathing.
That was until, a girl in jeans, a pink jacket, and an actual tutu slowly walked onto stage.
———
You had had enough of her standing there.
Enough of her not doing what she was so excited to do.
So you did was you did best.
Being her older sister.
Without much of a second thought you glanced around, spotting a tutu that looked your size and slipped it on.
You looked around to see if anyone would stop you.
You got nothing.
So without even taking a breath you walked onto the stage.
You glanced into the audience, spotting your parent’s reaction.
Your mom looked like she was about to die from embarrassment. Wouldn’t be the first time.
Your dad looked like he was waiting for this.
You waltz straight up to your sister, the music still playing in your ears.
You had basically memorized the dance from all the time she had come home just to barge into your room and show you.
You stood awkwardly beside her for a second, her glossy big eyes looking up at you with a twitching pout.
“come on,” you whispered. “I didnt put on this tutu for you to stand there.”
You got into her starting position, waiting for her to do the same.
You looked down at the small band and gave them a pointed look, practically telling them to ‘start the music over.’
———
This girl was insane.
Not not only did she put on a tutu and waltz into stage.
She stood there in ready position to dance.
And man was she pretty.
The feeling only grew bigger when he remember that she was doing this for, probably, her sister.
She stood on her toes, creasing her shoes as she and the little girl started dancing. The other girls doing their practiced part.
———
This was gonna be the talk if every family gathering from now on, you were sure of it.
‘That’s embarrassing,’
‘Honestly a disaster,’
‘I really enjoyed it,’
‘Good on you for taking a risk for your sister,’ you could imagine your family saying.
That didnt calm the nerves building in your chest.
You didn’t even think.
You just acted.
Now your kinda regretted nothing thinking before you grabbed that tutu. (Your dad died laughing at you afterwards)
But, alas, it was too late. You moved slowly across the stage, waiting for her to follow your actions. As she cracked a smile it immediately calmed your nerves, you were always in this together.
your sister finally moved, copying her original dance moves from you. It was adorable. Your dad was recording, your mum now smiling, and walker? God, he was just staring…
Once you both got the hang of eachother it was up from there. The crowd was really enjoying it, clapping along to the song a whistling.
One you two actually finished? Applause. Standing applause. You immediately turned pink, faint but the light could still pick up the colour.
you’re sister was jumping with joy, never had so much fun in her life. And if it wasn’t for you, she would probably still be frozen there.
———
the recital was now over, walker had been waiting outside the auditorium for Phoebe, with the rest of his family.
When you, and the rest of the little girls, came through the doors, walker couldn’t care less about what was going around him.
He watched you go up to your parents, your dad shaking you lightly before pulling you into a hug and kissing your head. He couldn’t catch what he said, but he was sure it was on the lines of ‘you’re insane, i love you so much.’
After you pulled away you stepped back, taking the attention away from yourself and onto your sister, your parents embracing and pecking at her.
you stood silently with a small smile.
Walker knew he needed to talk to you.
———
you had ditched the tutu as soon as you got off the stage, your sister almost tackling you into a hug.
As you two finally made input out of the auditorium, along with the of the rest ballerinas, you first caught the eye of your parents looking at you with what you assumed was a look of ‘what the hell?’
As you left them fawn over your sister you looked around. Looking at the parents, kids.. and most importantly, you caught the eye of a blonde boy.
He was cute, you had to admit.
You smiled politely, he smiled back.
you waved, he waved back.
