the ship rocks beneath her, the sound of the sea a comforting lullaby that makes her eyelids heavy. she’s lost track of the time, the rum going down with a merciless warmth that makes it hard to sell the sun from the shadows, but she knows it must be late. the entire ship is quiet. 

she hears footsteps before she hears the door open, and she knows without a glance who has come calling. she should be in bed by now. 

the quill slips from her fingers before she pushes away from the desk, lips steady and prepared to expel an excuse. however, before she gets to her feet, she finds her lap full of a beautiful blonde with eyes that she could drown in quicker than the waters they sail on.

“ hello, you. ” her cheeks warm, both from the liquor and the contact, helga’s weight dragging her further towards the calm that would send her straight to sleep. however now, as her heart pounds against her chest with the pleasant surprise of this warmth, sleep seems so very far away.
