Reading Response
In Chapters 1 & 2 of “Writing in Transit” the author addresses what writing transfer is, how discourse communities and discourse conventions come about, and how to write an effective paper using the writing process. Writing transfer will be used for the current major assignment when comparing two different genres for our topic. These different genres have their own ways of “talking to” many discourse communities, therefore, by analyzing these genres we can understand their purpose/goal. The writing process is an effective way of completing this assignment. If it is used throughout the assignment, you will prevent going crazy when writing your paper.
Being in the major I am in (Biology), the writing process is an important concept to be aware of. A lot of research is needed, in order to generate new ideas and/or discover new things. Revising is also a big influence on the papers written within this major; science is always changing. A subtopic within the Revising across Disciplines tells us to “Be open to change” (pg.33)
I am positive that I will be using many of the strategies I read about in this chapter for the assignment in hand, as well as future papers I will be writing throughout my educational/professional career.
