My brother left today for london. He is on the plane right now and should land around 3am our time and 8am their time. I'm actually so worried and want to cry. He's my little brother and he's gone all the way to london for 10 days with his soccer team. All I keep thinking is that their plane is gonna crash or something. Aaaaahhhh I'm not gonna be able to sleep tonight until I know they've landed safely. I know he's gonna have fun though I'm so jealous! He gets to train with proffesionals like arsenal and see all the big arenas! I'm still worried because he still gets upset if he stays at a friend house for more then one day and if he has soccer all day and we are busy he misses my parents even though they are just in the other room sleeping. Aaaaaahhhh I need to stop thinking about it! I'm being rediculous!
day 19
pictures to be added later
woke up early to run out to Giverny with Melissa and Kathryn. Missed the first train so had to bumble around a mall and I was overit.com/i'mfromnewjersey. Eventually got on the train and read till we got there, hopped on the bus, and RAN to Monet's house because we didn't have a lot of time. Basically sprinted through the gardens taking 8800 pictures and ohmygod it was so BEAUTIFUL! All I could say was "I get it. I understand art." (what is art?).
Then we literally sprinted back to catch the bus to catch the train. At the station Kathryn got stuck in the toilet. Lol/trauma/everyone keeps getting stuck in toilets.
Took the metro back to Reid Hall for a film screening. The movie was Chronicle of a Summer and it was actually really fascinating and moving. It was made in 1960 as a documentary by a sociologist. It was really cool. Afterwards we hung around Reid Hall and played with our teacher Amy's adorable little son Beals and Abigail and I discussed our travel plans for post-program (south France! Barcelona! Italy!). Then Abigail, Rebekah, Megan, Kathryn and I went out to dinner at this crepe place nearby (wheat crepe with chicken, spinach, and onions).
Afterwards I met up with Melissa, Julianne, Merritt, and Cara at the Pantheon to hang out before WOS's 5th birthday party! We got there and it was really fun. All of the bartenders were happy that Cara and I came after going out with them and Sunday and everyone kept being super sweet and friendly and just playing with us and taking tons of pictures and Matthew poured whipped cream into our mouths and Eric, the manager of the Moose, and Pierre, WOS's owner, kept giving us drinks (I literally paid nothing, it was amazing.) and Chelsea kept playing Top 40 hits which was THE MOST FUN. Backstreet Boys then Call Me Maybe then Party in the USA then Empire State of Mind (which of course we loved). It was fantastic. They invited Cara and I to go out with them again after closing but we both have things to do today so we politely declined and said we'd see them tonight for INDEPENDENCE DAY!
so today? (day 13)
slept, woke up, read over workshop submissions. i had submitted a piece for workshop this week, and it was really fascinating to hear what people though about it. that the constraints of reality were actually the surprising advantages of reality. c'est magnifique.
then we had a guest speech by a translator, during which i wrote a lot about language and translation.
then we went out for dinner (gnocchi bolognese): melissa, julianne, liv, abigail g, megan, myself. then back to the mines. then julianne, melissa, and i went to WOS for the eurocup game. i ended up taking care of a friend for a while, and then i chainsmoked, but when i got back matthew gave me a free shot for taking care of a friend. then me and abigail s (who was magnificently there) got a bunch of free drinks from an 18-year-old just-high-school-graduate from las vegas who was drunk for the first time. we taught him how to hit on girls, it was adorable. we went back to the mines and heart-to-hearted.
