“Oh, I wish I could go on an adventure. Surely, there must be more than this provincial life. But, I’m afraid,” Belle sighed, tucking a lost string of hair behind her ear, “I’m afraid I’ll have to stick to the adventures in books for now. Please, tell me more about your journeys. They sound so wonderful.”

“Tch, what’s with this blind optimism?” It took no genius to see that, well, Kael wasn’t exactly the cheeriest person ever. Oh, no, his humour lent itself much more easily to cynicism and general moping. Now, he was hardly incapable of being in a decent mood but, somehow, when he was already in a less than stellar state of mind, the presence of someone as high-spirited as this kid proved to be something of an irritant. “How does that not wear you out, holy sh---”, mumbled Kael, rubbing his forehead with the heel of his palm,  “ Whatever, this is giving me a headache.”
