b/c you’re newer to st fandom you might not know this and it’s info i think you deserve: between seasons 2 and 3 there was a will byers in the upside down graphic novel. now directly contradicted by season 5, but when will is in the library the mind flayer puppets a bunch of corpses to give a speech about how will belongs in the upside down forever. in the interest of being a creepy entity that wants will to know it was listening, it throws in as many references to should i stay or should i go by the clash as possible. one of these references being referring to will as “darling”
and that is why i’ve been a wiseone truther since before vecna existed. like most people read that as “eldritch being who doesn’t quite understand humans” thing and i read it as a “oh, this is a guy, a possessive, creepy, condescending guy.” there was a fan theory circulating around this time that the mind flayer was at one point a hawkins lab kid who was so powerful that death wasn’t the end. my take on that was “yes and that kid was a BOY who is now GAY for WILL”
