It's absolutely heartbreaking that people are finally understanding the appeal of Noirla/nder after I've more or less given up on the show. I really hate that Krip/ke went the direction he did with it--he took it to a place that I have no desire to follow.
*cracks knuckles* Here we go. Homelander and DID.
Opening Notes
If you have any questions about systems, this post, my system specifically, or if you just want to know every single thought I have ever had about Homelander and Mirrorlander in general, shoot me an ask!
Notes on Systems
A body that has more than one person in it is a system. You see this a lot in fiction. Sometimes it's fantastical, like Atem and Yugi (YGO). Sometimes it has a more realistic basis, like Kevin and his system (Split, Glass).
Systems can be split into two categories: Endogenic, meaning that the system did not form as a result of trauma. My system, the one I'm a part of, is endogenic. The members developed as the result of roleplaying and a whole bunch of autism. Systems that formed as a result of trauma are called traumagenic. Systems where the origins are sort of hazy, or are a bit of both, are called mixed origin. Some systems like this prefer the term quoigenic.
Please note that in neither of those instances did I use the word "DID."
I do not lose time as part of my system. All of us can talk to each other and share knowledge quite easily. There is no dissociation. DID requires all of these things.
Assuming that Homelander (HL) and Mirrorlander (ML) are, in fact, a system, they do not have DID. I do believe they're traumagenic--Antony Starr himself said that HL created ML as a kid to be a sort of mother/father/friend to him.
I believe that Homelander and Mirrorlander are part of the same mixed-origin system, and that they do NOT have DID.
More under the cut.
My current fixation is Noirlander and I really enjoy your fics. I can't stop thinking about them and I wonder what is your thoughts about this: if Noir found out what Homelander did to Blindspot, how do you think he would react? What would Noir feel when Homelander picks on the Deep or A-train?
Ooooh, good questions!
Okay so I think that Noir has kind of been.... frog-boiled into accepting Homelander's hissy fits. It's happened so gradually that he just sort of accepts them as part of working with Homelander.
My personal headcanon is that Noir thinks of the Homelander as his son, and as a result of that, ends up justifying Homey's behavior. Noir would be horrified at what happened to Blindspot--who wouldnt'?--but at the same time, I think he'd see it as a risk of working with Homelander. He might take Homey aside after the fact and tell him "You can't just do that, what the fuck", but those talks have less and less of an effect on the Homelander these days.
As far as Kevin and A-train are concerned... that's a good question. And kind of complicated. Because while I think Noir would agree that sometimes yeah, they need a Talking To, the actual methods that Homelander uses--debasing, abusing, etc--are probably a little triggering for him. He thinks about talking to the Homelander about it, but every time Noir gets ready to confront him, Homelander will smile a certain way, or his face will twitch just so, or a laugh will have that familiar cruelty behind it. And so Noir just keeps his head down and doesn't make waves.
the boys is literally political satire man idk what to tell you
The first two seasons was as much a critique about the superhero genre as anything.
Kripke has had to be reminded by his actors that Homelander isn't a 1:1 analogue of Trump. The show has become more about TRUMP BAD after he left office than it ever was while he was president.
If you don't understand that a show can be multiple things, man idk what to tell you.

Re: Vought Rising
Okay, now that I've actually had some time to process this, here are my thoughts.
I still really think Kripke needs to get over his boner for Jensen and SPN. He is never going to have that again, get over it.
The show did, in fact, need to stop last season. S4 (save e4) has been one crushing disappointment after another. I don't trust him to handle certain things very well at all.
I don't understand why SB--who is just as bad as Homelander--is getting a show. Or the Nazi. He's made it very clear that we're not supposed to like the villains, going so far as to make the fan-favorite into a Trump analogue, so the reasoning behind this confuses me.
HOWEVER
I am so excited to see Aya Cash again. I love her so much, and I am praying fans can be normal to this time
I am dying to see who they cast as Chloe.
The fact that the show is going to be set in the 50s means that it's going to be difficult to make Stormfront Homelander's mom. I'm still not putting it past Eric "Let's make this as gross as we can for no reasons" Kripke, but I'm more hopeful.
Final verdict: I'm not happy it exists--not everything needs to be a Cinematic Universe--but I'll give it a shot. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work, and I'll be sad, but not surprised.
Things I keep forgetting:
A-train is not canonically trans
Kevin is not explicitly autistic
What's going to be interesting re: shapeshifter is whether or not the show addresses it as rape. Because it is. But we've consistently seen Hughie mistreated by the narrative. He literally saw his girlfriend die an incredibly gruesome death right in front of him, and yet he's shamed and labeled with "toxic masculinity" when he wants powers to protect his loved ones. He wants to be able to take care of his partner the way she takes care of him, and he's shamed for it. He wants to ensure she doesn't die an equally gruesome death, and he's told no, that's bad, shame on you.
And now he's going to be a victim of rape-by-deception, and given that Kripke is.... Kripke, I really do not trust him to handle this well. It's a situation that needs to be handled sensitively and with nuance, and Kripke wouldn't know nuance if it punched him in the dick.
Also, like. Can we stop using rape as a plot device now? Not just because of how it's been handled, but because it's getting stale at this point.
