Along the road from Modena to Vignola, in the heart of the Terre di Castelli area, lies the beautiful village of Spilamberto. Home to the traditional balsamic vinegar and nocino liqueur, Spilamberto has many unmissable monuments for visitors to feast their eyes on. The symbol of the village is the 'Torrione di Spilamberto' (Spilamberto Tower), a name given to a complex of medieval-era buildings at the entrance to the historic centre beneath the 14th-century wall, which was built by the City of Modena to strengthen the castle's defences. Then there's 'Rocca Rangoni', a fancy-looking fort that belonged to the Rangoni marquisate for more than 650 years before being purchased by the village council of Spilamberto in 2005. Another important landmark is Villa Fabriani, a large and elegant property named after its first owners, the Fabrianis, who were an old and distinguished, middle-class family from Spilamberto. The villa houses the Museum of Traditional Balsamic Vinegar that takes visitors on a voyage through the history of the traditional balsamic vinegar producers and the secret of this local delicacy.
