Machaon sketch. Still trying to figure out his anatomy.

He has a long history of being dared to do things by his peers (it started out as a way to take advantage of his ability to fly and became more general over time). This drawing is probably depicting one of those occasions.

Basic anatomy of a volarean (Telluria’s winged people). It’s very rare for altered humans to have extra limbs, which is why their wings are their arms.

Anatomically, they’re kind of a combination of every flying animal type. They have the wing structure of a pterosaur, scales / fuzz and patterns similar to butterflies and moths (insects), and other features similar to birds and bats.

Volarean clothing stays on using either a gentle oil-soluble adhesive or weakly magnetic dust sewn into the margins. Their scales are much larger than those of butterflies and require some force to be detached, so them rubbing off isn’t a concern.

The wings should be larger than I drew them here, but whatever.

You can’t see it here, but his wings are based on those of a black rustic moth.

I hope he doesn’t look too similar to Sebastian 😅

Machaon’s parents, Io and Tomas, when they were much younger. Io is shown with her first prize-winning shadow box, dedicated entirely to a single large leaf, while Tomas is chilling on a rock near the seaside.

This shirt has an adhesive patch along the joining lines. Some use magnets instead. The design on it is a phosphor tree leaf, a rare sight in his hometown of Pernior but common elsewhere in the country.
