The amazing work of @dswt ❤️#trunkupwines ・・・ Today was another milestone day at the DSWT: Ngilai, Godoma, and Murit graduated from the Nursery to our Voi Reintegration Unit! They follow in the footsteps of their friends Mbegu, Ndotto, and Lasayen, who made the same move from Nairobi to Tsavo East. National Park just two days ago. Upon arrival, the trio was immediately enveloped by the Voi herd and escorted down to the mud bath for an inaugural wallow. This is just the beginning of their journey back to a life in the wild, and they may spend several years at Voi until they are fully ready to transition from our care, but it is a momentous step for these elephants. A terrible drought gripped the southern part of Tsavo East National Park last year, causing close to 400 elephants and countless other wild animals to lose their lives. Thankfully, the skies have opened this month — and at our Voi Reintegration Unit, we got more rain in 48 hours than we had in all of last year! Congratulations! #trunkupwines #bekindtoelephants @dswt Welcome to the world, baby Solar! Seraa’s first calf is a beauty, brimming with confidence and character. Our Voi Keepers were surprised to see a tiny figure trundling down the slopes towards them yesterday, accompanied by Seraa and a coterie of attentive nannies. The first-time mum, as our wild-living orphans so often do, clearly wanted to introduce her baby to her human family. We rescued Seraa from a well in 2001, when she was just six weeks old. Fast forward almost 17 years and now things have really come full circle, with her starting her own family in the wild.
