Gelnhausen in Hessen, Central Germany, lies 40 km from Frankfurt am Main, between the Vogelsberg mountains and the Spessart range. According to the Institut Géographique National, from 2007-2013, the geographic center of the European Union was located in a wheat field just outside of town. Gelnhausen is also located on the German Fairy Tale Route, a scenic tourist route following the Grimm Brothers‘ stories. Yesterday, my (somewhat) local Vogelsberg Tolkien Smial met at the Scheffehof in Kirchbracht for an informative afternoon where we learned about plants and their properties, where to find them, and how to prepare herbal remedies from the herbs we'd gathered during a brief hike. The setting was beautiful and very inspiring with its beehives and the wonderful, bee-friendly garden.
