I'm sitting on the train from my suburb of Quakers Hill into Sydney. I'm rather annoyed and there's fuck all else to do so I'm going to talk about things I hate in the gaming world.

First Person Shooters of the action form.

Well this is a no brainer for probably most people that follow me because you guys seem cool but if you spent the last 5 days replaying Call of Duty multiplayer to live out your racist/troll fantasies then you can kindly unfollow.

The inevitably refilled pool of sequels and cash ins that is the fps universe has been eating games up ever since Doom in what, 98 or something? Look at Doom, then look at any modern fps and you'll see nearly nothing at all has changed or evolved. If you know me well, you might say: "Oh but Matt, you deliciously beautiful being with the body of an improved Zeus, one of your favourite genres is racing games." Well yes, Katy Perry, it is, but I don't see Turn 10 attempting to market it to everyone who is breathing.

Some people say video games are on their way to becoming, or even are an artform. When I look at games like Mass Effect, Skyward Sword, Final Fantasy and Deus Ex (you can have shooting in your game and not be an fps) then I think yes, they are an artform. The general public, the ones who need to start accepting interactive media as having a real place in society, never see and will certainly never play these games though because EA and Activison are too busy having bus advertisement wars and growing their posters on retail stores like it's Jumanji.
