Virtual Recitals
So my recital was scheduled for April Fools Day, but the spread of the virus is making it seem more and more each day that this will not be a possibility. I am considering doing some type of virtual recital (rather than postponing it).
Aside for the technology side of it, there are many challenges I’m trying to rethink and get creative with:
-Ensemble playing: whether it is a chamber group or with an accompainist, what is the right thing to do? As music majors, our classes can’t transition to remote learning as easily as most academic courses. How do we cope with this? Are there any plausible alternatives?
-Repertoire: it’s looking like I will have to shorten my program, but at this point I am considering reworking it. I already have 2 solo flute pieces... should I aim to have all of the pieces solo? This goes along with my ensemble concerns.
-What defines a recital? I’m trying to consider possibilities outside of the traditional “box”.
This is really tough. Please stay safe and healthy.
