Every week is race week! This Saturday I’m trying to regain the #shelterinplacefamily5k title from @artiejohann. As fitting for a Mother’s Day weekend race, we’re taking bets for this weeks charity @everymomcounts. You can donate on our fundraising page (link in bio) and tell us who you’re betting on. OR, Venmo me to bet on me (@carly-johann) and Artie to bet on Artie (@RTjohann). Either way, we will match all bets as a donation and double match the bets on the loser, which will be Artie. Every Mother Counts works to make pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, everywhere. During this health crisis, they are responding as countless, heart-wrenching stories from women and healthcare providers around the world continue to pour in. They are doubling down on their commitment to support mothers and the individuals who care for them–no matter where they live. #everymothercounts #funraising #virtual5k #linkinbio #carlywillwin #betonmoms #artiewillprobablylose #mothersday #motherdayrace #protriathletes #motherrunner #trimom https://www.instagram.com/p/B_0hW_0hwfK/?igshid=irnejgy3ml03
Another virtual 5k in the books! It was hot af. 99 degrees with heat index. I’m now 20 weeks pregnant and my hand was swelling up. I also felt myself getting slower and slower but couldn’t push myself at the end to go any faster.
But I still beat my PR! By a 1 minute and 17 seconds.
I have also beat my first virtual 5k time by 7 minutes and 10 seconds.
Hell yeah!
Excited to take a ride on the Oban Express this spring with @zombiesrungame and doing a bit of training to get ready. #morningrun #zombiesrun #virtual5k (at Green Lake, Seattle) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bvo1iiqldTK/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1tzzmzghjl31i
Steph’s First Virtual 5k
I am so glad I participated in Pomona’s First Annual 5K Run. Training for this event has been a long process, but luckily I had support from my hometown’s running crew, We Run Pomona , and Smith’s club sport, Fun Run Smith. It was very exciting to run in Northampton while representing my city and fundraising for youth activities back home. Before this event, I had never heard of (let alone participated in) a Virtual 5K Run. Here are some questions I had and things I learned through this experience:
What is a virtual 5K?
A virtual 5K is similar to a regular 5K but it takes place outside of the designated running areas. In other words, this run takes place where ever you are. As a proud Pomonian and avid runner, I really wanted to participate in Pomona’s First Annual 5K. Thank goodness they had a Virtual 5K option for me and other folks outside of Pomona. I went through the registration process and received a shirt and medal just like everyone else.
What are some good running spots in Northampton?
My personal favorite has been the Mill River Trail. This trail takes you through a scenic route through the forest and passes by some popular resting spots such as the Japanese Garden, the Gratitude Line, and the Mill River Swimming Hole. Other good running spots include the Norwottuck Rail Trail and the Manhan Rail Trail.
What is running in the fall like?
This fall has been surprisingly warm! I was expecting it to be much colder when I signed up to run. When temperatures start to drop, one can still go out to run. The crisp air is what drives some people to run even during the winter. I don’t know how comfortable I feel about running in the snow, but I do know that I want to continue running in the fall. Because there’s nothing like going on a run through New England fall foliage.

Started my 4th of July off right! I did another 5k. Lmao don’t ask about time because tbh I matched my worse time. (1:05:40)
I wish I could blame it on the two kids and dog who decided to join me. But they were faster than me before they got on bikes and scooters sooooo 😂 I was very glad to inspire them to exercise though!
This was my 4th 5k since summer break.
5k completed!
My bra strap broke about 3/4 of a mile in so there was no jogging at all to be done 😂 It was horribly muddy and slick and my sunburn was pinching like HELL.
But I did it. No prepping at all done and with the wardrobe malfunction I’m not too terribly upset at the time.
Embrace your inner Unicorn! 🦄
Forgot to post which 5k I did. This was the Princess Dash from VirtualRunEvents.
I burned 471 calories so that means I get to eat chips and queso tonight right?! 😂 Balance baby.
