"Jo hukum, Padshah Begum Ji."
-Virah, a desi sapphic love story
she's so qameer

You no longer come by my door at night.
This indifference, I can no longer bear.
Who is it that occupies your heart? The place you five monsoons ago swore to only belong to me.
I should leave you, but my heart's too stubborn for it.
Thus, I called you tonight just so for a night, I may remember how soothing your caress was when I burn myself in this separation.
This home is no longer of two hearts.
I was listening to Ab tohe jane na dungi and this came inside my head.
Virah - separation, abandonment, yearning, absence
Made a playlist coz why not (wanted to add more songs but the tunes of these songs are similar and I like it that way for now)
Stills from - Goliyon ki Raasleela Ram-leela
The song Virah always gets me. There is something so brilliant about that song. It does not go into exalted detailed description of how virah feels. In 8 lines it gives such a simple yet hard-hitting description of it.
It is not an extravagant poetic depiction....It almost feels like a factual description of virah. Raw and painful. A virah which has freshly struck and hasn't got the time, yet, to deck itself up in the fineries of poetry. It is still a fierce pain that rips the soul apart...Not the lingering pain which can weave poetry.
Ae ri sakhi mein ang ang aaj rang daar du
Apne jee se prem rang kaise mein utaar du
Once you colour yourself with the colours of true love, it seems almost impossible to be able to remove those colours. They cling on to every part of your soul and body as the remnants of that lost love.
Tere bina kahi bhi na vyaakul man laage
Virhan sur taal saaj aaj tere aage
The intense longing of the heart never ceases. All the places ring with memories. Life loses it's rhythm, it's beauty and surrenders to the virah left behind by the person.
Nainan ko chain nahi rain rain jaage
Ik pal mein toot jaye saans ke ye dhaage
Incessant tears push sleep away from the eyes. The sleepless nights prolong the wretched pain. That one moment where everything shattered chokes you with agony.
Tu jo muh phere sakhi, deh pran tyage
Pal bhar tu dekh mujhe, zindagi guzaar du
As the love of your life turns away from you, it feels as though someone has yanked your heart, your very existence out of your body. You lose yourself to the pain. Then your mad heart beseechingly asks them for one last moment. Just a little more time....Before virah becomes your companion for the rest of your life.
