In an attempt to end his life after his son is murdered, Vashishtha ties his own arms (since he can swim) and jumps into a young and strong mountainous river.

The river, apparently, in the form of a local woman, unties his hands and saves him. Grateful, he names her and the river- Vipasha (the untier).

The facebook friend list gives this generation a reputation of being peer-oriented; far more than just social. In fact, the universe for Gen Y seems to be getting much smaller. Like Purva mentioned, “We chat with numerous friends on facebook and keep a track of what they are doing. Sometimes, we make that formal call to our cousins but my family (parents and siblings) and best friends form the core of our universe. We have no time to socialize or bother what’s happening to the rest of the family. We are a selfish lot.”

They know ‘who makes the difference to their lives’ and they ensure that they keep in touch with them.

 This is a self-centred, goal-fixated generation that will, with full comprehension and at any price, secure its future. The sacrifices and martyrdom for a cause is not for them, unless it means signing an online petition or holding some candles.

Opportunity: Make the difference to stay connected

This is an excerpt from the facebook status of a Gen Yer. They are commenting on a sex scandal that broke out in India about a self-styled godman cum spiritual leader (Nithyananda) and his sleazy sex acts. What was once a taboo topic (sex) is now discussed in an open forum like facebook.

Opportunity: Gen Y is open and out of the closet. Encash on the sexual liberation of India.
