THE COPPER BEECHES part two (pt 1 here), the conclusion. According to Watson: "As to Miss Violet Hunter, my friend Holmes, rather to my disappointment, manifested no further interest in her when once she had ceased to be the centre of one of his problems, and she is now the head of a private school at Walsall, where I believe that she has met with considerable success."
(This is part of the Watson's sketchbook series)
Violet Hunter appreciation post
I love her so much!!! The Copper Beeches will forever be one of my absolute faves because of her
Holmes feels protective of her as if she's a little sister, but he still knows she's together and capable enough to be sent in for subterfuge
She's sharp and smart and is able to put together deductions, he trusts her judgment entirely
And when they go in to the room where the daughter is being kept prisoner, Holmes and Watson tell her to keep back because it's dangerous, but she still just walks in right alongside them, she runs down to save her boss from the dog with them, she helps carry him into the house, all things that female characters in ACD canon never do!!!
I think if ACD hadn't been allergic to women, she would've been a great recurring/supporting character
Plus Watson is even like, "It's so sad we didn't keep in contact with her, she was awesome" like come on Arthur
Look, I know that I already made a post about how much I love Violet Hunter, but I have to make another one because she’s just so fabulous.
I mean, she has “the brisk manner of a woman who has her own way to make in the world.”
AND SHE BECOMES THE HEAD OF A SCHOOL WHERE SHE IS “MET WITH CONSIDERABLE SUCCESS.”
CAN YOU IMAGINE BEING A WOMAN IN THE VICTORIAN ERA, AND READING ABOUT A SMART, CAPABLE WOMAN WHO MAKES HER OWN PATH WHO IS NOT ONLY ACCEPTED, BUT SUPPORTED BU SHERLOCK HOLMES AND DR WATSON?????
Holmes and I have been involved in many adventures which are unlikely, for a variety of reasons, to see the light of publication. Perhaps the most singular of these was the extraordinary case of the fiendish Norbury and the Giant Rat of Sumatra. In that instance, we received aid from a most unexpected source at a moment when our situation was indeed dire, and the terrifying rodent was expertly dispatched by a remarkable feline that had once been the property of the cruel stepfather of one of our fair saviours.
My friend Holmes has, in the past, described women as inscrutable and untrustworthy. I have not heard him do so of late.
a holmestice gift for @beamkatanachronicle

Adventures has so many good stories but I will ALWAYS be biased towards The Copper Beeches... Not for any reason in particular
Does anyone else feel like The Copper Beeches could've been its own gothic novel?
More Granada doodles, this time from the Copper Beeches (still tracing to get the outlines, and they still end up looking rather silly half the time, but hey, I am improving!)
I love it when they stand so close their shoulders are touching <3
Also shoutout to Violet Hunter, you're amazing and we love you
Bonus extra scribbly doodles below the cut:
