Good Easter Eggs don’t distract from the flow of the story. (Where’s that post about Sir Justin in Shrek 2? It’s a great discussion of this, though it’s focusing on pop culture references, a similar concept.) ASOUE did a fantastic job.

“Are you following me?” Veronica growled as she’d turned the corner. She had her hand on her taser and was ready to put up a fight.

Trying not to think about the worst possible outcome, Beatrice turned her gaze to an elderly couple across the diner, sharing a malt & some curly fries. Beatrice tried to imagine what Lemony might look like when he was older... funnily enough, she couldn’t. Nor herself, for that matter.

Think about that later. 

She was only sixteen, after all: she didn’t need to think about growing old now. Maybe when she was twenty she could start thinking about those kinds of things. Now was the right time to be alive, & she was glad for it.

She was glad to see Lemony walk into the diner, too -- so much so that she smiled as he approached, her heart beating fast even though she felt relieved. 

               “    Where’s your hat, L?    ”

     she sips quietly at her tea, studying the figure before her. the duchess has been kind in letting her stay, but has offered no answers as to who exactly she is or the identity of anyone else that seems to walk through the door. it’s frustrating at best - beatrice knows she must know someone. anyone. including the one before her. but when she tries to recall, she is met with nothing but a painful throbbing in the back of her head. 

    “—i’m sorry.” she says gently. the duchess has brought doctors of all sorts to come and see her and all have said her memories will return, eventually. once prodded. but it’s something that apparently must happen on it’s own. until then, she lives in a confusing and frequently bizarre world. 

Lemony will bug his sister?
