#violence solves nothing

I'm Canadian, but I'm still effected by the recent tragedies that have occurred in a 3 day span in the last week. Senseless murders of men. Alton Sterling pinned on the ground by police was no threat but still was shot and killed. Philando Castile being shot by an officer for reaching for his licence and killed. 5 Officers in Dallas killed only because they were police. And most recently a man shot in Houston who was carrying a gun. It's incredibly sad and it makes everyone angry.

Protests are great but mob mentality can set in and that creates more damage as people riot and with emotions are high and people get hurt. Yes in some of these cases I would say it's a case of racism. But that doesn't mean all Police are racist. There are officers who, because they have a little authority, think that they can do whatever they want without any consequences. Unfortunately, some get away with their crimes while others actually do pay the price for their actions.

It makes me angry that a person or persons who are supposed to protect the people, all the people not just ones they feel deserve it. Abuse their power and use bullshit excuses and blatant lies to cover their tracks.

Every time we try to progress as a society, something happens that sets us back. Not ALL cops are bad. Not ALL black people are criminals. Not ALL white people are racist. We need to stop stereotyping people. We need to stop fighting fire with fire because that does nothing but create a bigger fire. Violence solves nothing. It just creates more violence. Trying to get the Government to changes gun laws is great but it's not the gun that kills it's the one who operates the gun that kills.

I personally believe that automatic weapons, (Police/Military grade weapons) have no place outside of police or military environments. What should be done is for anything other than hunting rifles and basic handguns to be made inaccessible to the public. You could argue that there's still the black market and if someone wants something there will always be a way to get it. That's true. But unless you try you'll never know.
