it's not hard to know when leon is in his emotional constipation state, where he doesn't want to talk about things because it's easier to avoid them. he sees it when he calls ashley to check up on her, when he makes a phone call to claire or sherry to see what they've been up to. it's this weird twisting of his brows, the opening and shutting of his mouth —— wanting desperately to be more intimate but not able to. luis has entertained the idea that it's because he's been in the business of being a government agent for so long; there's so many things that have to be kept quiet, where secrets seem to make better lovers under the covers than an actual human being. but part of him wonders if it's just a leon thing; the line of work he's in doesn't exactly have the best track record for life, so maybe that's why he's afraid to ask. attachments hurt more when they're in danger —— luis knows that all too well. because how many times has he watched leon walk out the door with a quip on his tongue that hides the reality of what's going on inside of him? how many nights does he stay up, staring at his damn phone, wondering if it's going to light up with that call that leon is no longer with them?
luis' own nose scrunches at the panic that rises up at the thought. he tries to push it down, tries to refocus on the way that leon stares at his phone for a second longer after he hangs up. does he do the same for him? or has luis always been reading too much into this? he will always settle for friendship, there's just always something in him that wonders. but there's also the fact that leon scott kennedy is too damn emotionally constipated to bring it up with. which poses its own sorts of problems that luis has been waving off for far too long.
❛ yes, it's doing that thing where you don't know if you want to ask someone how their day went or if that'll be far too personal. ❜ luis snorts from his position on the couch, book long forgotten in favor of his newest study. ❛ y'know, it wouldn't kill you to admit to yourself that you actually care how these people are doing. ❜
