          probably  impossible ,  for  a  lesser  hunter ,  but  silvhen  is  second  only  to  his  mother  on  the  trail  of  prey .   though  prey  is  such  a  nasty  word ;  he  means  her  no  harm .

          tim’s objection doesn’t go entirely ignored.  she pauses long enough to give him a hard glance -- a FRIENDLY warning -- before raising the handle knot the same way she might raise the butt of her pistol, angled for the bridge of his nose -- LESS FRIENDLY.

how much of this was the curse talking, rin wondered idly, reaching up to brush her fingertips against his cheek. she didn’t remember any tales of the horse and the ox being connected, in her search for any hint of the history of the curse. but perhaps they were writing their own tale now, making something new for the history of the sohma family. and maybe that was enough, for the both of them.
