Nathrae named her Vidrinath, or Vidri for short. It means lullaby.

During one of the occasions where Nat (already a deserter from Lolth's cult) was captured and brought to the Abyss, she managed to steal one of the displacer kittens being raised there by the priestesses before escaping.

Nat's plan initially was to raise it for its hide, blood and charms, all profitable and useful for a thief such as her. Of course, that didn't go at all as planned and they're now companions instead.

By the time of the game, Vidri is around 50 years old - a middle aged not-so-little lady.

Vidri remains very much so displacer beast and is still Lawful Evil, but with Nat being True Neutral, there's not a lot of damage Vidri will be inclined to do unless Nat is being directly threatened.

It does mean that keeping her under control is tricky for Nat sometimes, and it helped Nat's tendencies to seclusion a lot - she'd rather spend time with Vidri than other people anyway.

Vidri put quite up a fight before accepting to share with Halsin and Karlach. When she finally joins mid-to-end Act 2, Nat and Karlach don't share a bedroll (even just to sleep) and Nat's middle of the night chats with Halsin are, literally, done while guarded.
