cute little thing about mine and @dr-ground-zero Weather Boys™ Rain
Came up with a HC that for the month of March Rain gets a really bad cause of sniffles that last the whole month. So I wrote a short little fic about it!!!
“Etshiiew! Ed’shiiiew! Heh…heeh! Eeeshiiew!”
Rain sighed before wiping his nose on the millionth tissue today. He always hated this time of year. Literally. Like clockwork every March he would get a case of the sniffles which would last the whole month. And the worst part was that neither of his partners ever got sick.
Rain could deal with sneezing and the runny nose, hell that was so common for him it borders on cliché, but what he could not deal with was the endless nights of no sleep. At least with his regular colds, he could look forward to the end of the day where he knew he could sleep till morning. But with the March colds that was a different story. As much as he tried to sleep it always avoided him. At most he would get a few hours here and there but never a full night's sleep. Not even Orpheus’ sleep dust helped him. He was just doomed to be awake.
It was on one of those nights of endless sneezing and rubbing at his poorly abused nose, he heard a knock on his door. He glanced and saw it was early in the morning right after the turn of midnight. He weakly called out for whoever was knocking to enter.
The doorknob turned and Leyo peaked around the corner. “Hey, raincloud. Feeling any better?” Rain rolled his eyes before gesturing to the mountain of tissues on the bed and floor.
“Oh, I feel great.” He said sarcastically before rubbing his nose. Leyo smiled and entered the room holding a steaming mug. “Sorry baby, I know you feel awful, I wish I could help more.”
Rain felt a pang of guilt hit him and he adjusted his tone before responding. “No, sorry that was rude. I just…heh..heeh.” His breath continued to hitch as he searched for a tissue before ducking into his sleeve.
“Etshiiew! Ed’shiiiew! Heh heeh! Eeeshiiew!”
“Bless you! Poor thing, you can’t catch a break can you?” Leyo said while navigating to the bed. He brushed some of the crumpled tissues off so he could sit on the edge looking at his poor partner.
Rain nodded before he found his breath hitching again. With these March colds Rain felt like he could hitch forever, and it was a tossup if a sneeze, or sneezes to be realistic, would occur.
“i-ihh..hh— hihh!! Heh'TSHh'ih! —TCHiuhh!... Hh…h-hihh…” He exhaled with an unsatisfied huff and rubbed at his nose which was already sporting a reddish hue.
“Bless you, are they getting stuck?” Rain nodded. He wished this month was over, but he knew as soon as it was, he would have to start going out to do his duty as a rain spirit. That meant long walks in the rain and pollen season, he shuddered at the thought.
He cursed Mother Nature in his head as Leyo climbed into bed next to him. He has always felt more at peace when next to Leyo. It was warm and inviting, like a fireplace or a warm ray of sun. He sniffed back congestion and rested his head on Leyo's shoulder.
“Can’t sleep can you?” Leyo asked after a few moments of silence. Rain nodded and replied stuffily.
“I have been trying but my nose can’t seem to figure out,” He trailed off as his breath began to catch. “When to stop sneezing.”
Rain fanned his face and Leyo brought a sleeve up to his nose just in case but after a few more inhales Rain sighed again. “Ugh lost it again, it's been doing that all day.”
“That must be awful raindrop, do you want some help?” Rain blushed and nodded. “Please but have tissues ready for the downpour.”
Leyo laughed and grabbed a fresh stack of tissues and held them ready. “Okay, baby I got you. Just sneeze into the tissues.” He started rubbing the inflamed appendage slowly but as the elven breath began to increase in intensity, Leyo switched to rubbing the septum. That seemed to be the final straw and Rain jolted forward into the tissues Leyo was holding.
“Hh…Heh'KSHht! —kSHh! H-hihh! Hih'KTCHh! Ugh…hh! HT’TSCHh! t’CHSHh! -’itschh! –ihHK’TSCh’uh!”
Leyo was mindful to catch all the sneezes and as the fit died down he instructed rain to blow. Rain gave a congested blow into the tissues, he had practically decimated. Leyo swapped them out with fresh ones just in case another fit was coming.
“Breath. That’s it, good job baby. Goodness! Bless you, are there anymore?” he asked. He was never quite sure with Rain.
“Probably, but I think we are safe for now,” Rain said defeated and exhausted. He leaned against Leyo and snuggled into his shoulder.
“What would I do with you?” the grey-haired spirit asked. Leyo chuckled before wrapping his arms around the frail spirit.
“Probably sneeze your cute nose off, so I am happy to help keep your adorable face looking happy and healthy.”
Rain sneezed and blushed.
“As healthy as you can be, now close your eyes and try to get some sleep.”
After a few minutes of sniffling and kissing Rain fell asleep snoring loudly but Leyo would not have it any other way.
