So skipped posting Monday but did do a 4 mile sustained run. That’s what we had for dinner on Monday it was so good pasta sauce, ground beef, spinach, onion over a bed of cauliflower tots mmmmm. Today’s run was really great looking at the pace. Did the first 5.5 in the new vibrams...... I now see where people were saying there’s more impact on the feet. Apparently the treadmill has more bounce in it then I had initially thought. I will say though I feel like the reviews I read complaining about it were a bit exaggerated. They did work my muscles differently I mean I usually feel a 10 mile run but man my calves, quads, IT and obliques are feeling it. I’m going to have to up the lifting in those areas that’s for sure. But on the plus side I’m not feeling my Achilles like I had been previously. Now on half 2 I do see a pretty significant speed decrease not sure if that’s completely from the shoes or a portion of that is just muscle fatigue. Guess I’ll have to wait it out and see. Lifting went well. And a few selfies for your viewing enjoyment. Hope you all are doing well.
Hey saw you use Vibrams. Do you use them full time? I just started trying it out noticed that it does take some conditioning to get used to. Do you have any pros and cons?
I used to use them full time, but noticed the soles of my feet would get pretty tender and get pre-blister “hot spots” when my mileage started getting up over 13-15 miles, so I sought out something with a bit more protection for my longer runs, as I was training for my first marathon (a few years back).
I had some weird foot pain last year and had to lay off running for a while; when I started back I used my Inov-8s exclusively. But I’m currently thinking that maybe my feet have lost ... something (not sure what!) so I’m trying to switch back to having more of my runs in them.
It wasn’t so much the actual shoes that made me need the conditioning to get used to, but rather the foot landing style they practically require. And since I spent so much time running in them exclusively, that let me get that form pretty dialed in, so I feel like I haven’t lost anything there.
The biggest “pro”s to me are building strong feet, ankles, and calves, and lets my feet act like feet. The biggest “con” is that with higher mileage my feet feel like they need a bit more ... cushion? protection? Something.
Nice 4 mile sprints with hills today. I smoked all weekend and this is the first day back on the wagon so I wasn’t expecting a great run. Also got my new vibrams. They are really comfortable feels very similar to barefoot without having the rocks and cold. Should be trying a run tomorrow to see how things go with them.
I Am One of *Those* Programmers
👟 Why yes, they are incredibly comfortable. Frankly, it’s ordinary shoes that seem ridiculous to me now (because they’re like strapping bricks to your feet, not because they don’t have toes).

Trustland Trails
Went out on some trails in the south end of Whidbey Island to test out my Vibrams. Yep, I'm one of those people now with the "toe shoes", but as someone who has shoved my feet into actual pointe toe shoes for the better part of my adolescence, my feet suffered for it. Thus, comfort and realignment takes over.
