- Other former costars hanging out is Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan who are both in Telluride for the Telluride Film Festival in support of their films THE LOST DAUGHTER and BELFAST (Kenneth Branagh’s semi-autobiograhical tale starring Dornan, Caitriona Balfe, Ciarán Hinds, Colin Morgan and Dame Judi Dench).

-Johnson arrived in Telluride after hitting up the Venice Film Fest for the film, which is directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Johnson was accompanied by Gucci’s Alessandro Michele.

Gyllenhaal was supported by her fugly and annoying husband Peter Sarsgaard and brother Jake.

-Although Jake Gyllenhaal is reuniting with his ENEMY and PRISONERS director Denis Villeneuve for the mini-series THE SON

there’s no photographic evidence that they reconnected at Venezia.  But Jake did meet up with an old friend.

The question was about Denis and Timmy and how they work together and how they built the symbiosis together, especially for the Gom Jabbar scene.

Tim : First, the language. We can joke about it but frankly to have a chanel of communication that was just for us was really reassuring for me. But beside that, the level of seriousness brought by Denis regarding the material. Very often in sci-fi, we try to add so many elements and interesting things and I had the feeling that Denis wanted quite the opposite. He just wanted an environnement that felt true with characters and behaviours that felt true as well. And regarding the Gom Jabbar scene, it was the prescription for the actor to put the hand in the box and said to himself ‘that’s the most pain you ever had in your life’ so… [incoherent sentence i’m just going to translate as he said it] it was on both sides to try to make the role on the realistic side but also to put myself in Denis’ hands and to trust where he wanted me to go, to give myself all and not question it and to have all the trust it’s so easy to have with Denis.

Denis : Timothée is someone with a very strong intellect. He’s an intellectual. We talked a lot at first, with the script. Lots of intellectual discussions about the movie and on set. My goal was to go to the visceral nature of the scenes. After setting the ideas for the scenes, we had to go deep in the feelings and the emotions and Timothée trusted me. Gom Jabbar is one of the first scene we shot together. We worked with Charlotte Rampling. The great Charlotte Rambling who was absolutely beautiful but she also terrified us…

Timmy: She was scary because we couldn’t see her face.

Denis: It was during this scene that Paul’s character was born. It’s then I saw all the genius, all the power in Timothée’s acting. In a specific frame, i remember very well, where the character has to become posessed, like an exorcism, by a force within him that he didn’t expect, that comes from his unconsciousness, from somewhere else. And at that moment, Timothée, his eyes and his all face tranformed in front of the camera. There was like a charge that came out and I remember crying of joy and starting to dance behind the camera because I said to myself: ‘that’s it, I have a movie. I was not mistaken. He’s Paul.’ I was so happy.
