For your prompt request: Pairing- Pepperstuckony (yes, Pepper/Steve/Bucky/Tony). (If you want to add Rhodey to the pairing, that works, too.)
Title: Living in CrisesSummary: Tony and his family have moved to the moon. Too bad Christine doesnât realize that means sheâs not welcomeCreator: @tisfanFor: @marvelpolyshipbingoRating: TeenShip: Pepper/Rhodey/Tony/Steve/BuckyWarning: none
Christine Everhart had that look on her face, like Tony Stark had told her a particularly unpalatable truth and she wasnâtsure if she should believe him (because she didnât want to) or call him a liar.
Except that shewas fairly certain he was telling the truth. Which annoyed her.
Tonyâs innertwelve-year-old did a fist pump of triumph, although outwardly his demeanor wasas unflappable as always. Heâd been in front of cameras since he was a child. It was going to take more than an ex-lover with a grudge to get him to crack.
Especially today.
âWell, you see,âTony said, gesturing, âa hundred and seventeen countries signed the Accords. Wefelt we had no choice in the matter.â
âYou had nochoice?â
âThe United Statesclaimed the moon by virtue of putting some dusty old boot on the surface andplanting a flag,â Tony said. âAnd if thereâs one thing Iâve discovered aboutAmericans, itâs that theyâll buy or sell⌠well, anything.â
âIncluding themoon.â
âIncluding themoon,â Tony said. âOf which I am now sole proprietor, owner, and mayor. AndâŚwell, I decided to make some changes to the outdated laws of Earth. Why shouldI be stingy, right? Why should it be one man and one woman? Right? We said noto that ten years ago. So, now, on the moon, why should marriage be onlytwo people? Itâs senseless. Nuclear family is over. We tried it. It wasisolating, it was detrimental to our mental health, our finances, our planet.Auxiliary family is the way, baby.â
âSo, you marriedall your friends?â
âOh, no,â Tonysaid. âThis dome would be a lot bigger if I had to house all my friends. Theseare just my spouses.â
âBig dome,âChristine said, tipping her head to one side. âAnd you have three husbands?â
âAnd one wife.Donât forget Pepper. Never forget Pepper. None of us would be alive if itwasnât for Pepper. Sheâs the real hero here.â
âSpeaking ofheroes, how does the Accords figure in here?â
âThey donât wantthe Avengers on Earth, getting into politics, saving the day, destroying cities.Itâs understandable, really. And my second husband, Steve, you remember Steve, right? Captain America? Well, if he sees a situation headed south, he canâtignore it. Itâs really hard to see stupid, petty Earth shit from the moon.â
âDoes Miss Potts âdo you still call her Miss Potts, orââ
âWe are, in fact, all Potts now. Dr. Potts, Captain Potts, Colonel Potts, Sergeant Potts and Mrs.Potts. Sounds nice, donât you think. And it makes those pots and kettles jokesso much funnier. Pep doesnât always appreciate my humor, but at least Buckystill loves me.â
âItâs hard tobelieve you married the man whoââ
Tony leveled hischin at her. âNo. Weâre not discussing that, itâs been hashed over, itâshistory. The Winter Soldier no longer exists, thank you for playing who thehell do you think you are, anyway?â
âRight,â Stevesaid, standing up and flicking off the television. âI think weâve seen enough.â
âIâll get coffeeon,â Bucky said. âHis shuttleâs due in like twenty minutes.â
âYou really thinkcoffeeâs going to help?â Rhodey demanded, but he was already in the closet, pulling out every fluffy blanket they owned.Â
âIâve gotcheeseburgersââ Pepper said, coming in the door, swinging the take-away bag.Surprising how many businesses they had for the little Dome city. Pepper hadnâtallowed them to call it Pottsville, so they named the city Crisium City, forthe lake it was built over. And, because as Tony said, they were constantlyliving in crises anyway, right?Â
âYou saw theâwave?â Bucky asked, kissing her cheek and taking the bag from her.
âHappy told me allabout it on the shuttle home,â Pepper said, stepping out of her shoes. Buckyalways liked it when she went barefoot. A soft kind of vulnerability, only forher husbands.
âRhodey wasamusing himself by watching it again,â Steve accused, and then laughed asRhodey threw a sofa cushion at him.
âHeâs coming,âPepper said.
Tony opened thedoor to their private dome a moment later. Looked around. Blinked.
âWhatâs this?â
Bucky patted thespace on the sofa reserved for him. âWelcome home. Thereâs coffee andcheeseburgers.â
âAnd a wholemarathon of those science fiction movies you like,â Steve offered.
âShe was acomplete bitch, I hope she didnât upset you,â Pepper said. âThat woman alwayshas had more ambition than sense.â
âHave you eatenanything more than coffee since you left?â Rhodey demanded.
âYou think Iâmupset? About Christine getting in my face about our marriage? Donât be silly, our marriage is the best thing thatâs ever happened to me,â Tony said.
âShe was actingââ
âSour grapes,âTony said. âSheâs jealous. And who wouldnât be.â
âTo have allthis,â Rhodey said, gesturing to Tonyâs⌠everything.
âTo have allthis,â Tony nodded, indicating the whole group.Â
