Medicine Ball Kneeling Chop. Part of our “Vertical Core” series. • This exercise trains the torso, or core, muscles to stabilize while lifting the ball overhead into a dynamic flexion with a bit of a rotation. This one is done with a ball, but it can be done with a band or a cable. • Our Vertical Core exercises train the movements in a more natural and dynamic way. By working from a more vertical position, we are asking the muscles to stabilize and act on the joints in a more functional pattern. By involving the limbs we create a situation where the shoulders and hips are asked to work in conjunction with the torso (sounds like sports to me!). This creates stability reducing the likelihood of injury down the kinetic chain. In other words, stabilizing the hips helps protect the knees. • Questions or comments?
