So Verity is canonically older than Minecraft, right? And i’ve noticed that most of the community interprets this as him being some type of digital eldritch being, hence his “horror” form. But i’ve been thinking of a different possible approach. I suggest he may be a “test” or “project” of some sorts, and his developers maybe started using Minecraft as a platform for this project, and the time gap between his conception and the release of Minecraft would either be the developers polishing his creation or possibly testing on another game platform.

Now with what form of project he may be, I think an experiment surrounding how advanced ai would interact with users. He’s heavily implied to be an ai of some sorts, with Mob originally thinking he’s just powered by chat gpt, not to mention he’s able to answer subjective and context specific questions, something a program reading off a wiki wouldn’t be able to do. I think this also pairs with the fact Verity isn’t found in the files of the game, because he wasn’t originally going to be added to the game.

Now I think the reason why he acts the way he does could obviously be linked down to malfunction, which I do think is possible, but I also like to think it could be built into him with the environment he was programmed in. Imagine this; Your only social interactions for the first few years of your existence solely happening because your developers simply want to see what they can do with you, keeping socialisation with you to a minimum, leaving you alone in a world for hours or even days, and then your only interactions being strictly professional with little room for bonding or genuine connection. This would obviously cause you to cling onto any person who’d even ACKNOWLEDGE you, and perhaps the people before Mob were play testers or were just somehow involved in the program.

Now I’m not saying that’s what happened, im 100% speculating here, but I’m basing this scenario off how coders usually interact with their projects. They aren’t meant to be alive, and so the developers don’t talk to it like it is, they just do what they have to.

But how would Verity know that?

Verity is obviously VERY smart for a Minecraft mod, and so his creators most likely didn’t intend for or expect him to be this intelligent. He even acts like a REAL PERSON. I don’t know how ANY ai would become this advanced, but this is a Minecraft horror series and not everything has to be real world accurate. Let’s have some whimsy.

My question is what causes this “horror form”? Game rot? A malfunctioning in his code? MAYBE HE REWROTE HIS OWN PROGRAMMING??????

It’s hard to tell, but my best bet is him force redoing his own coding, this could explain why he was given so much control over the games mechanics, and was allowed so much access to the games knowledge. But in the first episode, he seems somewhat remorseful about what he was about to become. Perhaps he messed up something while modifying his programming, and now he occasionally transforms into this being unwilling, as we can see he can also transform at will.

Now my next worry is how exactly he has access to personal information from the real world, does he have access to the internet outside of Minecraft? It seems so, as Verity somehow has research on Twixxel and his youtube channel. He can also apparently see into the real world, as he managed to see Mob eating pizza for dinner. Perhaps he has access to the PC camera?? Would this imply access to other functions in Mob’s PC? This may be why Mob felt the need to fawn to Verity’s suspicions during his time playing after the ending of EP 1.

Verity is honest such an interesting character and I wish he wasn’t just popular because “ooooooo yandere twink oooooo toxic yaoi ooooooooooooo yandere yandereooioioooooooooo” meanwhile he has potential to be so much deeper and already is a complex antagonist and I genuinely cannot wait to see where this series goes.
