Harper was on the couch in the living room when she saw Verity enter the room. “Did the dogs next door keep you up all night too?” She asked as she suppressed a yawn. There had been a lot of barking outside the night before, and she suspected it was due to their being an animal or something in the yard next-door.

Colton smirked at Verity from his spot on the couch where he sat across from her. “You know you have been here for ten minutes and you haven’t raided my freezer yet.” The man teased her as he liked to try to get under her skin. “If you keep it up I am going to have no choice but to believe that you actually like me or something.”

Colton was picking away at the latest song on the album he was working on when he heard a knock at the door. He could only assume it was Verity, as they’d agreed for her to come over when she’d finished off with work for the evening. He made his way to his front door, and after he confirmed that it was her, he pulled it open. “Hey, come on in.” 

“You know, I love a Bridgeport festival as much as the next guy.”  Colton said as he gestured to all of the chaos around them. It seemed that everyone in town was here, which he wasn’t that surprised about. “But I must admit I do hate how long the food lines get. I am not even sure I’ll have time to eat before I have to preform later on.” Colton told Verity as it seemed every booth had a line that was a mile long.

“You know, I haven’t been skating in years.” Colton told Verity as he looked out at the ice rink. “I used to go with my parents as a kid but then my career took off and I got busy.” He added as in the last year Colton was really starting to realize all the things he’d missed out on when he was always away on tour.  It was good to be home for the foreseeable future.  “If I fall on my ass, I need you to at least pretend like you aren’t going to tease me until the end of time.”

“Being in a room filled with anyone who is bigoted, sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic--I just--no,” Maya pointed out. “That, is an ultimate nightmare.”

"Kids are...terrifying and yes, I was a kid once, but...they’re terrifying.”
