Study Sidequest #???? - Vectorized Lettering
Been doing this for a couple of weeks after working through some more Lettering seminars that made me all too aware that one of the things I'm missing from my toolbox of tricks and skills is being able to vectorize my lettering.
So. Slowly starting to work on getting comfortable with it by looking up some tutorials, and jumping straight into it.
Currently doing a practice exercise of about 10 logos from whatever I could find lying around, ranging from "easy" to "difficult" (at least, difficult based on existing/non-existing skills). BUT extra difficulty level, doing the same exercise across multiple programs!
Adobe Illustrator (industry standard blah blah blah - and I should really know how to do this in Illustrator by now anyway)
Affinity Designer (popular alternative, I've been meaning to get more comfortable with this for years)
Inkscape (freeware vector program, in for a penny in for a pound, translatable skills should be translatable to any program right?)
Affinity Designer iOS version (Just for good measure)
Finally finished the full set in Affinity (left) today, vs the Adobe Illustrator set I finished about a week ago (right). Some differences but overall not too shabby.
It's been a real good brain teaser to try and work out how to do the same things in programs that work VERY differently. Next on the list is Inkscape, it'll be interesting to see how we go with that. And Affinity iOS is a completely different kettle of fish of it's own.
