Sorry this answer is late lol, but thanks for the ask! I might or might not reveal the details about their history, but a simple overlook is that Charmy’s biological family wasn’t in a good place when they had him. They could barely afford to take care of themselves and tried to find someone who would take him. I imagine that they gave him to their parents, who disapproved of their decision to even try when they were struggling themselves. They didn’t care for the baby and just dropped him off somewhere else, and then they passed him along until finally someone had enough and just tossed him into that alley.

Vector grew up in a pretty big family, and although he loves them his parents were often arguing and placing expectations on him and his brothers to have stable jobs and go the traditional route. They pretty much associated following your dreams with inevitable failure, but he was still determined to prove them wrong and open his own detective agency. They don’t talk much anymore, but he’s hoping that if his business grows big enough then maybe he’ll reach a point where they’ll have to admit that he succeeded and they can rebuild a relationship from there. As for right now he keeps them at arms length to avoid rejection and criticism, stubbornly committing to his work and blocking out any negativity.
