Sifu began teaching me the #longpole form tonight. It takes persistence, patience, humility and bucket loads of hard work to get to this point. I have so much more to learn. #WingChun is like life, we never stop growing and evolving with it. I'm loving every minute of it. πππΎ - #blacksthoughts #vbwingchun (at Wing Chun School)
Nothing can match the refinement that an expert brings. We're so blessed to have Sifu. He blesses me with rich knowledge and creates the environment for me to gain the experiences needed to facilitate my classes well. I enjoy what I do. Every pain, every hour spent training that could be invested elsewhere, every hardship, and ever revelation; they make me who I am. I appreciate it all. I just feel blessed to be able to do what I do and follow my passion. - #blacksthoughts #lmkwingchun #vbwingchun #longpole (at Wing Chun School)
#pushandpull We don't just hit with our fist, we hit with our entire body. Getting the lead out and getting my sweat in. #vbwingchun #maybenexttimeillusegroves π - #blacksthoughts (at Bangkok, Thailand)
I like the rhythm of this kicking drill. Earlier I was focusing on much more speed and lost a bit of skin on the inside of my ankle, but that's the price we pay at times. Increasing mobility and adding more follow up options when having to shuffle step. Plus it's just fun. π #vbwingchun #shufflestep #sidesteplowkick - #blacksthoughts (at Wing Chun School)

Practicing a technique w/David after class. It's good to have my Brothers back in class. - #blacksthoughts #vbwingchun (at Wing Chun School)
"No feet, no fight." In our 5 o'clock class I was working with a student on his hand-foot coordination. He got it together after I gave some instructions and we shared some healthy laugher. A bit into doing the drill, he mentioned that I wasn't correcting him anymore. I told him that I see that he's autocorrecting himself. I gave him the analogy, "When spellcheck is working on your phone, you just keep on typing. But when it starts making words that you didn't intend, that's when you have to do some additional work." I told him, "I see that you're fixing yourself and I don't need to keep talking. It just takes time for you to get your coordination together." #Wingchun isn't about just copying moves and techniques. You have to learn how and why you're doing it, then you have to learn how to adapt it to yourself while maintaining the integrity of the technique. But going back to the coordination thing. I'm glad that I got the footwork together on this #lowkick drill w/shuffle step. Just gotta shuffle quicker and keep my hand placement in check. #workinprogress #vbwingchun - #blacksthoughts
The time to relax is when you don't have time for it. - Jim Goodwin/Sydney J. Harris A key component in #chisao, and #wingchun in general, is relaxation. Our speed isn't based on brute effort, but proper use of our body's potential. It's the step and the turn that drives the hands forward to reach the opponent. Using economy of motion allows us to start from the last stopping point. We don't always have to cock our arm back and throw our raw weight into a strike. We use short distance power and quick snaps of force. To say, "I'm not fast enough, so I can't do wing chun," is the same as saying, "I'm not flexible, so I can't practice yoga." It's the training that gets you there. Once you understand the "how" and begin the training that gets you there, the shroud of mystery begins to dissolve. So just relax and let it flow. - #blacksthoughts #vbwingchun #lmkwingchun (at Wing Chun School)
