Vatadage or House of Stupa, are anywhere accross Sri Lanka. But The Vatadage of Polonnaruwa is the most famous. It was intended to house the Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha, which is now deposited at The Sacred Temple of Tooth in Kandy. . As with many other vatadage, it has a stupa in the center with four Buddha images facing the cardinal directions. . At the bottom of the steps, it’s the moonstones, an elaborate semi-circular welcome step stone carved in polished granite to represent the spiritual journey from samsara to nirvana.
