Estela gets back to the table, where Taylorâs waiting for her.
Taylor is eager to ask what was that about, what Jake couldâve possibly want from Estela, and wonder whether she could even trust Estela, given she mightâve worked with Jake too, but before Taylor could even say something, Estela offered a hand to her.
âMhhm?â She looks up at her, but takes her hand. Slowly, and cautiously, but takes it.
âDo you trust me?â Estela asks.
Taylor hesitates but sheâd lie if she said she didnât.
âAdmittedly, yes.â She confesses.
Estela flashed a big grin, one Taylor was yet to see on her. âThen I need you to trust me on this.â Pulling her with her hand, Estela and Taylor make their way towards the table where Aliester and Jake are seated.
Taylor starts to think maybe this was a bad idea, after all, but Estela speaks up again.
âJust like I knew youâre going after Rourke, I know you can trust those guys.â Estela tells her.
âAnd Iâm supposed to just believe you, just like that?â Taylor arches an eyebrow at her, all while Aliester and Jake are looking hopefully at her, almost like theyâre begging her.
âJust hear us out, okay?â Jake bursts in, and Taylor is a bit taken aback.
Reluctantly, she sighs. âFine. Letâs hear you out.â
âYou probably saw this article on my phone, right?â Jake flashes the article of Benâs death.
Taylor nods, appearing unimpressed.
âAfter some digging, you found out it was Rourke, who killed him. Am I right?â
He was laying out the facts quite right, but Taylor remained unconvinced.
He was too cocky, and those were always the ones not to be trusted.
âYou figured iâm working with him, didnât you?â Suddenly, Jakeâs tone turned from a arrogant one to a more soft, caring one. He was talking directly to Taylor, as if there wasnât anyone else in the room.
Meeting his eyes, Taylor gulped. âYesâ She breathed out.
âTaylor...â Something sounded awfully familiar in the way he said her name.
Taylor couldâve sworn she heard it a thousand times before.
âIâm not working with him. Iâm after him. Just like you.â Jake admitted, and suddenly it clicked.
âYouâre after him?â She asked.
It wouldâve made sense just as much the opposite did.
âI want to take him down. Badly.â Jakeâs gaze hardened and his eyebrows furrowed, turning that beautiful face of his into a frown.
Taylor scowled at herself for calling his face beautiful, and tried concentrating on the important matter at hand.
Was her sight blinded by the new feeling of excitement in her stomach, the one she tried to ignore and deny, or did everything just turned out the right way?
She had to take a leap of faith, and she shut her eyes.
What was her gut telling her?
Could she trust them? Could she trust Jake?
Protect... Him... The words echoed in her mind. She shot her eyes right back open.
Jake was still in front of her, eyeing her. Waiting patiently for her.
Her eyes wandered down, and then she saw it.
âDog tags?â Without thinking about it, or asking for permission, her hand flew towards his neck and she grasped his necklace.Â
Jake didnât flinch back, but he did look at her in confusion. âWhat about them?â
Taylor blinked at him.
âI think Iâve made a huge mistake.â She admits.Â
Jake, Aliester and Estelaâs faces turn into a hopeless scowl, but Taylor hurries to prove them wrong.
âNo, no... I mean by not trusting you earlier.âÂ
âOh.â
Next thing she knew, they were texting the whole group, and inviting them to Taylor and Mikeâs condo.
She had to text Mike, too, and inform him she was deeply wrong.
They arrived in their apartment, and Mike presented their elaborated evidence boards.
The rest of the group slowly started coming in, each greeting Taylor with a smile.
She didnât know yet, but she felt she could fully trust them, now.
Whoever Vaanu was, he was telling her in her dreams she could trust them, all along. Taylor just didnât interpret them the right way.
They had enough material to convict Rourke for a lifetime...
The only problem was catching him, first.
âWoah...â Aliester gasped as he looked around. âThatâs way more than we have.âÂ
âDo you even have an evidence board?â Mike asks.
âLet me guess, it couldnât have been your idea. So iâm guessing Princess here brought it up?â Jake asked, the words leaving his mouth on his own.
âActually, yes.â Mike high-fived Jake, and Taylor tried to push as deep as possible the way Jake made her feel by calling her âPrincessâ. They had work to do. They had a bad guy to catch.
To think all of this started with her dreams...
Or maybe, just maybe - It didnât.
âSo weâre guessing Rourke couldnât have gotten too far away from Costa-Rica.
Heâs still a wanted man, even without all of the evidence we have here.
But... We donât know where exactly he might be.â Mike was explaining.
âActually, I think youâre wrong.â Estela interrupted. All eyes flew over to her, and she shifted uncomfortably, like she was hiding something.
âOkay.â Mike gulped, unsure what to make of it. âWhere do you think heâd be, then?â He added, asking.
âSearching for La-Huerta, most likely.â She answered, clearly nervous. Everyoneâs eyes widened, but Taylor and Mike were too concentrated on Estela to notice that.
After a quick search in his phone, Mike frowned at Estela. âThereâs not âLa-Huertaâ anywhere on the map.â He said.
âYou wonât find it on the map.â She said, now regaining her cool and determined tone back.
âHow can Rourke search for a place that doesnât exist on any map? How does he know about it, anyway?â
âAdmittedly, I donât think that place exists.â Aliester jumps in, and Estela lets out a breathe, relieved sheâs not the only one walking around the subject they all tried so hard not to tell Taylor about.
âNot anymore, at least.â Estela shrugged, agreeing with him.
Mike and Taylor were confused now. Too confused. But they were also trying their best to understand what was going on and trying to give Estelaâs theory a chance.
âSo?â Mike asked, prompting them to continue.
âWell, Rourke isnât the kind of person thatâll let a small detail like that stop him.â Estela bit at her lip. She, too, wasnât sure what should be their next move.
âSmall detail?â Taylor was unconvinced.
âThe place heâs searching for doesnât exist. Anymore. How is that a small detail exactly?â She asked, gulping.
She stared at the gang, passing her gaze through all of them.
There was something they werenât telling her - She was sure.
âWhat is it?â She demanded to know.
They passed uncertain glasses between them but no one spoke up.
After a long while, Michelle raised her gaze towards Taylor and opened her mouth.
âJust... Trust us on this one?â She asked. âWe could hire a small plane, let Jake fly us there -- That placeâs special. Weâre sure thereâll be something there.
Something Rourke wants, and mustnât fall to his hands-â Michelle tried explaining but gave minimum possible information.
Taylor took into consideration the pleading look over Michelleâs face. But it wasnât enough.
âNo. Iâm sorry.â Taylor shook her head, unconvinced. âIâm trusting you a whole lot already. Youâll have to do better than that.â She said.
Mike nodded, standing beside her.
Finally, Jake took a step towards her. âLook, princess.â He said.
âThat place... La-Huerta... Is special.â He told her.
âI already heard that.â Taylorâs gaze didnât waver. Her eyebrows were furrowed into a serious expression. She was doubting trusting them in the first place.
She didnât even notice the way her heart fluttered when he called her âprincessâ.
âWe were there.â He said.
Taylorâs eyes widened. She looked at the gang once again, seeing them nodding and exchanging wary glances.
It was like they lacked a leader and no one was sure what exactly they were supposed to say. How much they shouldâve told her and how much they shouldâve kept to themselves.
âAll of you?â She asked, looking at Jake.
He raised his hand, scratching the back of his neck.
âYes,â Estela jumped in. âAnd you were there too.â She added.
A look of surprise and disbelief crossed Jakeâs face, too - Not just Taylorâs.
She questioned what it could mean but she was too busy trying to let her mind wrap around the idea.
It sounded absurd. She shouldâve remembered if something like that had happened...
But deep inside, it didnât sound that absurd.
Her gaze finally softened, dropping to look at the floor.
âTaylor?â Mike put a comforting hand over the back of her shoulder.
âI... I donât know what to say.â She raised her eyes, looking at Mike with a troubled expression.
âI donât think theyâre lying... But how can I not remember being there?â She asked.
âWe all forgot.â Zahra burst into the conversation.
âWeâre not sure how or what happened, but weâre pretty sure it has something to do with you.â Raj jumped in too.
âMe?â She asked.
âYeah. You saved us. Somehow. Weâre not sure how.â Diego said, joining in too.
âNo... No. It canât be.â She shook her head.
Can it?
It... Could explain her strange dreams.
Nothing made sense anymore... Only that it did.
âMaybe this will convince you.â A new voice joined in. A man was standing at the door, and everyoneâs gaze turned to look at him.
Well - a âmanâ was a stretch in describing him. Since... He had blue skin.
âOh my... Varynn?! Is that really you?â Diego didnât waste any moment, and ran towards the stranger.
They hugged for a moment, staring into each otherâs eyes before breaking away and staring at Taylor.
She gulped.
It was certainly convincing...
âRourkeâs on his way. La-Huerta is merely a normal island right now, but heâs out to find the islandâs heart. Or whatâs left of him, anyway.
My people are protecting it at the moment... But the prophecy clearly says that only you can stop the Hydra.â The blue man-- Varynn, explained.
âProphecy? Hydra? Are we in a video game or some kind of Marvel movie?â Taylorâs eyebrows furrowed.
âNo, I wish.â Diego said. He took a tentative step towards Taylor, placing an arm over her shoulder.
âItâs true. I promise. Come with us, please?â He asked her.
She still had some doubts, obviously. She wondered if everything they told her was real, and where were her memories if so.
She wondered how come sheâd âsaved themâ, and how did she end up here.
But those were questions sheâd never get answers to - if she didnât go with them, she figured.
Not to be too shippy, guys, cause you KNOW Iâm still not sold on the Watchers, but when youâre hiding from Varynn and his super big kitty the Sabertooth in the grass, and you have to concentrate on something that will drive him away, the right answer is Diego...
Like...
Thinking only of Diego seemed like normal brain functions to Varynn...

The Endless Summer Atlantis AU that's just an excuse for Diego x Varynn
So this takes off from the end of Atlantis 2 when Atlantis finally reemerges from the bottom of the deep dark sea, in which the Vaanti are the Atlantis, but instead of blue markings, they have blue skin and golden eyes. Prince Varynn, in a gesture of trust and peace, decide to meet up with Earth ambassadors and work on the minute details of their peace agreement. Diego Soto Ortiz, 22 and already working on his Phd. on Ancient Runes and Linguistic, has been on his toes since the first broadcast of the emerging ancient civilization. He's got notes, scrolls, and a personal decrypted rune dictionary in his hands as he excitedly chatters on 'Oh my gods, actual ancient civilization Taylor-you-cannot-believe-it-I'm-gonna-translate-for-them' to the phone. Cue them meeting and whoa-those-eyes-are-there-gyms-in-Atlantis, Diego actually trying to say hello you look nice in broken Vaanti while flailing a lot, and Varynn answering Diego in an accented yet almost flawless English. 'Yes, hello, thank you for saying I look nice (the version of Vaanti language that Diego used was actually 'flawless'), you are quite fetching as well. I am touched that you've taken to learn our language,' while doing that holding the shoulder like in ES2 Chap 4 (tenderly) Meet-cute thingies which ends up with Uqzhaal looking on shrewdly, Taylor shaking her head at the extent of the romcom-ness, and the most awkward romancing between an in-self-denial-Pop-Culture-Petey and very-subtle-too-subtle Prince Varynn /Got this when seeing how Diego could translate a bit of Vaanti language/ :>
