'LOVE / HATE' @nytbooks review by @gray.318 ⠀ ⠀ Valentine's Day celebrates love 💕 ... sure. But for some of us the holiday also inspires lust and/or doubt and/or fury and/or crippling regrets that with enough distance might one day be remembered as funny — so in the spirit of inclusivity @nytbooks this year sought to represent all the angles for us.⠀ ⠀ Hence, the LOVE / HATE issue.⠀ ⠀ For the cover, @nytbooks commissioned @gray.318 - originally planning to bring the headline to life solely through his expressive typography, @nytbooks asked Jon to conjure lettering that would capture the codependency of those dueling emotions. Where they landed was far more interesting.⠀ ⠀ His own mind-wandering @gray.318 led us to a stuffed plush heart bristling with impaled pins, a cozy domestic image that’s also a little menacing, like a weapon turned against itself. There's probably an unspoken message in there somewhere. ⠀ ⠀ Happy Valentine's Day!⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #valentinesday #nytbookreview #bookreviewart #bookreview #vantines #lovehate #hatelove #💔 #💓 #💕 #😍 #🍑 #❤️ (at Dutch Uncle) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8jEWHChEDF/?igshid=1dnlfw1kehpta
