“Montreal was a party city in the 70s. Today, it’s Toronto, and Vancouver has never been one. I was surprised when Vancouver started to lead the way with legalizing marijuana. It used to be a very conservative city.

I was very young during my time in Toronto. I was working in frozen food sales. Straight commission, no salary. There was a lot of rejection, but I liked the job. When hiring me, they said I could make $70,000 a year. I didn’t believe that. I worked there for 3 years: the first year I made 70, second year I made 85, then 90.

I weighed only 115 pounds; very skinny. Working downtown Toronto, I’d take 15-pound sample boxes of frozen foods and walk up the stairs to avoid the security guards. If they saw me in the elevator, they’d throw me out because that wasn’t allowed. I’d go to the offices, smooth the receptionist, make her feel comfortable with me, and get a manager to do a presentation for him. He’d write me a cheque and put all the boxes of food with ice into his BMW. The cheques never bounced.
